Fold Down Seat Question

Hello,
New to the forum and have a fastback fold down seat question. Hopefully my attachments will load. I have some seat parts that I'm trying to identify. I've been told by one individual they are 71 - 74 seat parts. If this is true OK but can one or two of the pieces be modified to fit a 67 - 68? If not, is there a market for 71 - 74 pieces. It is my understanding that these years may require addition pieces than the 65-68 types.

No one else out there has any fold down seat knowlwdge? I know the most aft or rear section is differant (because of it's squareness) than a 65-70 so I assume it would be for a 71-72. The front curved and middle section may as well however, with the exception of the chrome trim around the latch area (the curved section has no provisions for latches) I assume it could be made to work in an eariler model. Oh well, I'll stick it back out in the shed.

If it's helpful, here's some old pictures of my 73 rear interior with the 71-73 manual drawing: 73rearint.html. And YES, these rear fold down seat assemblies have real market value as they are not available (last time I looked) as repro.

Thanks PS for the pics & info. From your pics it looks like there is an additional piece; the most AFT (rear) almost square part that looks like it seperates the trunk area from the interior. Is this a fold down only item or do all 71-73s have this? In a nutshell I have some left over parts from a sell of a 67 a few years back. I'm tied up with a 56 F-100 project and don't need the Mustang stuff. I'm all Ford :flag: just have a differant addiction:nice:

I believe the trunk access trap-door is a feature provided on all 71-73 fastbacks with the (desirable) fold-down seat option. Most 71-73 fastbacks have the rear package tray instead of the "fold-down seat with trap-door" option. Someone who owns a 71-73 fastback with the package tray will have to chime in and tell us if their rear seat has the ability to be folded down at all.

FYI - you probably would have gotten faster (and more) response in the tech section.

that is all 71-73 fold down hardware.

non-folddown cars did not fold down. the upper rear seat would slip down onto two clasps and hold firm. behind it would be the trunk and a huge pair of cross braces. no trapdoor.

yeah, trapdoor opens into the trunk. stuff looks to be in decent shape so I'd say that at least the car's rear window didnt leak haha.

and just fyi, it's HARD to convert a non-folddown car over. LOTS of cutting/welding and you have to get it just right or it wont latch properly and there's no guide posts either, I'm assuming they were stamped differently from the factory before putting together because the inner wheelwell panels are one piece and completely different to where they mate up to the outer frame for the trapdoor.
