I am "donating" my A4LD. Once I get all the components for a T-5 Swap I'm going to test the A4LD. I want to see just how much abuse I can throw at it before it really breaks. I am going to see how long it will last and how much of an improvement I really notice when switching to the T5. So send me some ideas, what should I do with it? Drop it into 1st at 45? (Done that at 35 though). And on a more important note, how likely are tranny failures on an auto likely to affect the engine?
it has internal mechanisms to prevent you from doing some really stuips stuff. I can't drop down to first if I am going faster than 30mph, which really sucks because I my optimal shift out of first is 50mph. nuetral bombs are a good way to kill a tranny FAST. The A4ld is actaully relativly strong... just not durable. On a brand new, or properly rebuilt A4ld, you can lay down some good power numbers, and bark the tires into 2nd... but the tranny just doesn't last long doing it. On an old 100K+ mile tranny, you can expect its life to be short, even with normal driving on a turbo engine. I say go for 60' times at your local track. Get a friend with a truck and a tow strap, and go for broke. I have pulled as good as a 2.4 60' on mine without problems.
