I came across a 281-E Motor taken out of a Saleen Mustang that had 15000 Miles on it. The car was lost when it swung out of a curve and broad-sided a tree up in the rolling hills of North Carolina... Last week, down here in Miami, my 1999 Six-cylinder died when I let it run out of coolant, it over-heated, something cracked and begun smoking oil, then it pinged itself to death. Anyways, I have provisions of swapping out the two. I am purchasing the Saleen motor for $1000.00. It ran great after the accident, but the car was banana-shaped and was parted out. I will be getting everything but the ECU, Wiring harness, smog pump, Intake manifold and supercharger. My first question is there is a discrepancy over what parts Saleen modifies? ... The website says they put in better rods, pistons, crank, etc... But everyone’s telling me Saleen only puts bolt-ons, in other words I will be getting a stock motor. I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction with the v-6 extraction and v-8 install. I'll have the motor, $ 1500.00 and an empty Six-cylinder Mustang. Also I have a Just-rebuilt T5, a 11" Centerforce Clutch, some bolt-on extras including long-tube headers and what ever I can sell from the Six. Please give me your responses... I look forward to your feedback, Thanks!
You'll need everything from the Saleen as far as the motor goes including the exhaust, intake, electronics, etc. You'll have to find everything you said it doesn't come with and everything having to do with the v6 motor will be useless with the new one.
Uh.....let me get this straight?....You're getting a S281-E motor, a supercharged motor with forged internals for $1000? i think I'm missing something here. Ok....I'm gonna take it your only buying the engine out of the deal, but 1000.00 bucks still is quite insane, although a DOHC motor, a 03 cobra engine will cost you about 10K. You'd only get some minor bolt on parts for performance with the motor itself. But basically your getting a GT motor, your gonna probably have to get a ECU from that car, and probably tweaked if you don't have that supercharger on it, if not you can probably get chip or reflashed ECU to solve this. Although running a T-5 and 7.5" rear is gonna hurt you. Your gonna need to get a 8.8" rear, and probably atleast a T-45 tranny, your tranny may hold up though. All in all, I'm still curious is to how your getting a Saleen S281-E engine for $1000, that's practically getting it for free.
so basically you have a stock gt motor with pulleys on it....? 1000 not a bad price the k member you have will accept the motor but have fun putting in the wiring harness, ecu, getting it to crank again with the pats it won be easy ford will have to fiddle with it probably to get it to crank and many many many more issues, just do research and look on www.v6power.net for information on swaping out the v6. you want to sell me the whole motor from teh v6? I am looking for a motor to build up. any idea whats wrong with it and how many times has it over heated?
Yeah I know, I'll let you guys know after I take inventory of what all I get. I think its a great deal. To add to it, i called saleen with the #'s and they told me it's got built-up rods, pistons, crank, and such. I'm going to have to buy alot of parts over time and will be taking out EVERYTHING from the drive train except the rear end where I will have to be easy on until I can put out money for a stronger one. IF anyone whats parts from the 3.8L call or email: William 305-298-6123 F22Lightning2000@cs.com
