Fuel Fuel Pump Relay Or Ircm?

Discussion in '2.3L (N/A & Turbo) Tech' started by tealtiger93, Nov 4, 2012.

  1. Aside from the Integrated Relay Control Module (located on the passenger side front strut tower), is there a separate relay for the fuel pump in my '93 2.3L 5-speed?
I've found relays for around $20 on a bunch of websites but have also read I'll need to replace the entire IRCM, which is around $140.
  2. Check this out...

You can carefully open the IRCM and replace the relay(s) as needed. I believe that the 91-93 IRCM looks a little different from the one detailed for this Turbo Coupe, but the principle is the same.
  3. I did open it and my Dad had suggested the same thing, but I just ordered the whole IRCM from Rock Auto. I really just wanted to make sure there wasn't another relay that might actually be the problem and not the IRCM itself, if that makes any sense.
  4. No other relays, but there is always the possibility of a wiring issue.
  5. I swapped in a new IRCM; it was simple enough. It's started every time since. Hopefully it's solved the problem.
  6. Nice, glad you got it squared away.
