gasket material ?

alright, I'm cleaning my heads/block off and getting ready to put my heads back on. My question is this:

On the block I've noticed some black coloring (carbon I'm guessing) on the mating surfaces...it's really smooth and flush with the block though. If I scrub it with a 3m pad it only makes it look brighter...but it still feels the same.

do you think I'm safe with leaving this black coloring on there?

I don't really wanna scrub to hard though and mess the block/heads up.

thanks :nice:

Is there a spot on the deck that you can try cleaning that is away from the combustion chambers? That way you can see what is necessary on a surface that isn't vital.

Taking the surface all the way to bare shiny metal is very important. Otherwise the HG is not going to mate 100% IMO.

I would get a wire brush that has a 1/4" hex end on it and stick it a electric drill. That is what I did to get the carbon off of my pistons.
