Getting hard to shift...

I have a 2004 GT 5 spd. It has the OEM clutch and tranny with 78k miles.

Recently its been getting harder to shift from one gear to another. It’s not smooth like it was when the car was new.

It almost feels like the syncros aren't aligning. Does this make sense?

Does anyone know why this might happen?

Could it be the clutch going out?

Thanks Guys

sounds like your clutch is out of adjustment. I would suggest picking up a firewall adjuster to help your clutch engage higher and it should help you slide into gear a bit better.

It could be the synchros, especially if you've done a lot of high-rpm shifting.
Before doing anything drastic, you can try adjusting the clutch cable, and you can try different fluids. Might as well try the simple things first.

Ok, great thanks for all the post guys. I can change the fluid next weekend.

Does anyone have any suggestions for fluid/filter for the tranny AND

any suggestions for the firewall adjuster?

Thanks

EDIT....

Also in the event that the fluid or firewall adjuster doesn't fix the problem what are the "big" problems that it could be?

As stated above, try to pull back on clutch pedal to ajust racketing mechanism to adjust cable. If the stock adjuster is stripped out then buy aftermarket setup. Also changing fuild will smooth things out. I've heard of people using synthetic atf in the 3650 with good results. I plan on changing mine to Mobil 1, sometime.
