Looking for opinions. Im building my stock motor back up. New crank, bearings, rings gaskets etc... because I want to be able to drive my mustang for the next couple years while I build a blower ready motor.

However I still want something fun to drive and take it to the track a few times.

For about the same price, would you go with explorer heads, intake and a b-cam or a 100 wet shot.

Normally Id jump all over the gt40 stuff and call it a day, but im going to the track in august and im racing a buddy with a supercharged MR2. probably a mid 13 car.... I need to beat him.

Dunno, just want to get your opinion.

Oh and car is pretty much stock right now, got an exhaust, pullies and drag radials.

This is just my opinion, but I would do the motor work. Kind of unclear, you building another motor with a blower? If that's the case, maybe nitrous is more practical so you can transfer the system over to the new motor. If all you want is to beat your buddy, go nitrous, but building the old motor would be more fun to drive on a day to day basis, plus I've been there...fillin nitrous bottles gets tire-some and $. 2 years till the new motor? build the old one, and put some gears in your ride

yea, money is tight, so im estimating a couple years on the stand to build a motor ready for a blower. 347 with all the bolt ons and such. Im sure its not going to be cheap/

As far as gears, I have some that will be going in this year. 3.31's. Probably should have mentioned that.

gt40 seems to be sweeping the poll, as I thought it would. Am I gonna faster than mis 13's with this setup? Keep in mind it will be a fresh motor. I know its hard to tell, cause different foxes will run different times with the same setup.

i say a nos would be the fastest way to do it and cheapest way. i would do a 3:55 gear. my old car ran 13.40s on motor and a best of 12.18 on a wet 100 shot. just make sure u have a bigger fuel pump and a adjustable reg and u will be safe

now I'm siding with faststang90. Go nitrous. but yeah, you need enough fuel pump and a regulator. Put a 100 shot on it and watch your friend in your rearview the whole race! No need to build 2 motors

GT40 stuff. Even if it made less power, you have that power 100% of the time and it's 100% legal to have and use on the street. You pay for it once and you have it forever unless you break it, as opposed to having to constantly fill a bottle. In the long run, nitrous is a WASTE of money. I honestly can't understand why ANYONE uses the stuff even for a strip only car. Yes it works and yes it's very effective, but in a long term cost viewpoint you could spend 3k on a blower and make the same power and have that power on constantly instead of having to deal with bottles.

if i were to do it all over.

i would just do:
gears first.
intake (performer or something).
and a 100/75 shot.

gears and intake you got a 13second street car. that pulls good everywhere and is reliable.
the wet shot makes you a drag machine putting you in the 12's and !MAYBE! high 11's.

ps.whats the fastest a all stock t-5 5.0 and a 100 shot has ran? do they ever hit the 11's on the juice

No offense but why would anyone bother with stock gt40p's? How much horsepower did the explorer make with them?

Well, I can get the set for $150 so I figure why not. Maybe I should leave my stock heads, get the explorer intake and the juice??

If the heads arent worth a few 10ths Id rather spend the 150 elsewhere. Like I said this motor is just to tool around with for a couple years. Im going crazy driving the escort EVERY day.

for 150 I would buy the N20 set up and scrounge the JY for a gt40 combo. I boutmy my explorer motor intake to oil pan for less than 200.00
with gears and a gt40 setup I am sure that you will be low 12's for sure
