My moms 97 grand marquis won't start. It has about a 2 or 3 month old battery in it. The car has power to it and tries to start, but I soon as I turn the key to start it all the power goes out and its dead again. Than I try the same thing all power back to the car and turn the key and it all goes out again. I've tried jump start it with no success. So is it the alternator?

    Thanks
    Josh

this should be in tech, but it sounds like a bad starter.

get under the car and hit it with a hammer (no im not kidding) and see what happens, it may start or it may not

Sorry. Mods. You can move this to tech. I just didn't want to put it in 4.6 tech because its not a mustang.

So you think its the starter? I'm just making sure. If the power cuts out when you try to start the car it means its the starter?

all the power shuts off in my mustangs (except for headlights and tail lights) when i put the ignition into start position. so i believe that is normal.
