Help on hood pins

I have a question. I like them and they are really cool, but whats the perpous of them when you have the big pin that holds the hood down in the first place?
Joe

Have you not noticed hood shake? Im sure you have driven faster than 80 mph, and if you havent, you should be ashamed of yourself!! I did mine strictly for the bad hood shake that occured over 100 mph..I would have rather not drilled holes in my roof...heres a couple pics finished..

nice looking ride. i ordered my shelby pins monday. hood shake is an understatement i have had my car a year and on 3 seperate occasions my primary latch has popped loose thankfully the secondary caught the damn thing. dealer has adjusted everthing, replaced the latch. still does it. so screw it i am going to drill holes in my hood. what the hell was ford thinking, lets make a 5 foot long hood out of aluminum?

anybody have pics of the shelby pins on a factory hood with out the hood scoop?

Yes and whatever you do, DO NOT INSTALL THEM ON THE OUTER PART OF YOUR HOOD!!!!!! I messed mine up by doing so:mad: I used the outer most factory hole in the radiator support and it won't let the top plates sit correctly for the pins to sit flat in the recess! Of course this wasn't even possible to tell until I already had holes in my hood! Now my best bet is to ditch all my drag racing upgrade goodies and put it towards a new hood and paint:mad:

Damn Kool, sorry your install did not go well. I was thinking of buying the same ones and mounting them on the outer part of the hood as well.

Well, if you are thinking about getting a new hood instead, which hood(s) do you have in mind?:D

I like the location of it now just not the results of the pins/scuff plate. I want to get the Steeda cowl hood. Then I will mount them a lot further in next to the radiator cover, even if it means drilling new holes in the radiator support!

Damn Kool, sorry. When I was drilling my hood I was like, "I hope I measured this **** right"..But then I screwed up my radiator and billett covers!! $180 mistake!!
I would get the Steeda cowl if you have to replace anyway, Thats my favorite hood!!!:nice:

I guess I'm different, I want my pins to have the shelby logo. Thr car has hurst, steeda, mobil 1 and many other logo's, shelby is just one more. You don't have to put on the cables, but it makes it handy as you don't have to look for a place to set them, just let them dangle.

damn that sucks. i couldnt bring myself to drill holes in my hood. so i took it to a friend of mine that owns a body shop. followed the instructions (that i had to find elsewhere since shelby didnt send anywith the pins) i helped put them in until it came to the drilling part and i politely excused my self. look good but yes they are a PITA to do. we spent a couple of hours measuring, remeasuring making sure it was were i wanted them.
