Your math sucks... Each man did pay 10 dollars = 30 The actual cost of the room ended up at 25 = 5 dollars remaining. Bell boy keeps 2 and returns the other 3 = nothing left. The problem isn't the math, it's the way you're twisting the words that makes it appear to come out incorrect. The trick is that it uses fuzzy logic by comparing the total amount the men spent to the orignal cost of the room. That doesn't make sense because that is not what was spent. The new cost of the room [30 (org cost)- 5(actual rebate)=25]+bellhop's tip(2)=the amount the men paid in total(9*3=27) U.M.
This is much less difficult now that i'm awake. Bought the room 10*3 = 30 Refund 30-5 = 25 $3 total taken from the refunded $5 25+3 = 28 $2 given to the bellboy 28+2 = 30 Damn you and your late night thought provoking threads....lol
maby I didn't say it right the first time....But I heard it and thought it was neat. they started out by spending 30....but then they all get a dollar each back so now you say they spent 27......and then when you add the 2 dollars for the bell boy you get 29.......but when you say it to a a few people and they cant read it in front of them and they think about it and the key words are "so now they really spend 9 dollars each" it screws with peoples heads and they think there is a dollar missing..
I know I said it wrong.....maby it's on the net somewhere.....If anyone finds it I bet it will make more sence....but now that you know what the idea is you will probly have an answer
