I will be purchasing a Cobra in the next few months. I prefer to get a 99-01, but mostly a 99 because of the price. I have had 5.0's and recently had a 4.6 SOHC and loved the 4.6 over the 5.0's. This time I have decided to get a DOHC 4.6. I noticed that the 99 is rated at 315hp at flywheel, right? That is 270 at wheels? If so, how can I get it up to 310 or 340 at wheels? My thoughts are for a complete exhaust, intake (cold air, maf, and tb), and cam shafts. With respect for a custom tune. Would that put the horse power levels to 310 to 340? I find that fast enough for me and very streetable. Thank you for your assistance!
With bolt-ons and a tune you will be able to crack 300rwhp. If you throw in cams, those numbers are quite reachable.
You are probably going to need some intake help as well. There is a guy on the Blue Oval News forum that works the 99/01 intakes and he can pick you up about 15 h.p.
340 rwhp....cams, port your heads, bolt on's FYI The B heads are crap...if you really want better heads, get FR500's, Navigators, or 03-04 Cobra heads and port them. AND THE "SEARCH" BUTTON IS YOUR BEST FRIEND!!!!!
Thanks for your replies! So the heads on the 99 are crap? I'll save for 03-04 cobra heads then. Is the intake any good or do I need a new one? Will aftermarket cams for the stock 99 heads fit the 03-04 heads?
My bad...I thought for some reason you had a 96-98. The 99's are better than the 96-98's, but the 03-04's are better than the 99-01's. The 99-01 heads ARE NOT the same as Mach 1 heads.
