Alright well im somewhat new here and starting to get to know some people and the fourms here... Well when i bought my mustang it had 199k on it... it now has 204k on it... With factory motor and t-5 trans... is there anyone else past the 200k mark???? I have 2 friends that are ford techs and they both told me the same thing... "If it wasnt abused you have nothing to worry about" Well this car only had 2 owners b4 me... a one year lease to about 15k then a woman in her 50's that owned it for 10 years... all work was done by ford and oil changes every 2500 miles... anything over 150k i start worrying... but this motor sounds great and doesent burn any oil maybe a 1/4 of a quart every 3k... still running 5w30.... My question is... you think i should be worried... making sure i always have cash for another motor so i dont get stranded... or should i go balls to the wall on mods... the only problems ive had is random pinging here and there... and a random squeel on hard shifts which i think is my clutch... Ive basically put a list of mods together and random things i wanna replace... my goal is mid to high 13's at atco which is a really low fast track.... the only bad thing is im in college and low on funds... im working on getting a job like 2 days a week... but curently im not working... but i have managed to pick up some parts The List: CAI Bought: $33 New CLutch Bought: $75 (ford racing) Wires Bought: $40 (Ford racing) Plugs Bought: $17 (motorcraft) Explorer Intake Manifold Bought: $102.50 H-pipe Headers Shifter 3.73's Thats it for now the rest im working on
I have almost 200,000 miles on the tranny, when I rebuilt the motor 2 years ago (headgaskets) at 155,000 everything looked flawless. We may get some crappy out of the box HP, but very durable platform!
I think most people's odometers went out before they could get that high. Mine went out last month, I need to get on that.
Many cars when they get to that high mileage the oil pump stops working and they lock up. Not saying that is the case with our cars but without oil, you are s.o.l. Anyone experience this in a stang?
My friend had a '88 GT with 214k miles on the odometer before he sold it. Never burned oil and ran like a champ. I have 102k miles now and have no worries about the engine. I am more concerned with the tranny now. I have just over 80 runs down the 1/4 mile and wonder how much more the T5 can handle.
i know the oil pump is sorta a weak point. On my bronco 302, which had 110.000, the oil pump died....but the engine was fine otherwise...... But nevertheless, people have reported some insane high miledge on the 5.0. If you keep good clean oil, full you wont have to worry about oil pump failures
Odometer was froze at 185,000 when I bought mine. Im sure im close to the 200 mark. Runs great doesnt burn oil and still pulls strong. Think I just blew the headgasket though last weak due to some severe punishment on the motor sitting at 5500 for like 1:30.
Wow. What were you doing at that RPM for so long? Not that these engines can't take it, just curious.
my buddy from school had a mark vii with over 275k on his 5.slow. he popped the head gaskets after he was burning out and his water pump gave out, then it overheated and there you have it. funny as hell, and we had those gaskets busted out in no time
Wow and you guys have no oil leak at all ? I have 100k miles and I have to put one pint of oil every week
o oil leak even from the VC's non smoke no burning at all... im not used to having a car run this well... im suprised as hell
Mine gave out at about 110K but that was under boost. Pretty sure I blew an oil ring on #8 and may have also blown my rear main seal. I'm still tearing it apart. It was losing a quart of oil every tank, about 200 miles. If hadn't put the blower on, I think it would still be fine.
My last stang had 198k before I sold it. My bro-in-law was the previous owner and he had nitrous in it for a while with no problems. It still ran strong when I sold. I guess that's why I got $7,500 for it.
