I got hit and run last night at a parking garage. Pretty much my entire left rear quarter panel was side swiped. It's basically a huge, long, 2 inch gouge and it bent in the panel pretty bad.

I was looking at this and realized, man, replacing this part looks expensive. I mean it looks like you have to take the ROOF off, but I'm just guessing. Does anybody know the sort of work that would have to be done to fix this? I just want to know what I'm getting into. I hate it when there is body work done to my car :(.

I guess 2 inches was an exaggeration, but this is only the second time I'm seeing it.

Edit: Strange, that's surely a linking host. Oh well

This happened to me last year...

Cost me $450 or less to have it fixed if I remember correctly. They also painted dings on the door too that weren't even from the accident.
By the way that's the dirtiest my car has ever been, I cringe just seeing it that dirty.

Oh nice. How did it turn out? I'm assuming they just worked with the metal that was there. I'm wary about all that :(

I'm actually not sure WHAT they did, but it looks great...too great in fact. The panel is obviously blacker than the rest of the car now since 11 years of sun has taken its toll on the black. It's something you don't notice til it's pointed out and then it's blatantly obvious how much better it looks :(
I believe they cut that out and welded new metal in + bondo because I remember metal charges on the bill. It looks great, but too great almost. You shouldn't have to worry so much being as you have red and a newer car.

$380 sticks out in my head for the price.

a little touch up paint and some crafty use of a porter cable will take that right out.

alright, seriously, that blows. i get mad at the people that tap my door when they just open their door too hard.

good luck with the fixup. hope you get a good price, but dont settle for a lowball place. in body work, you do get what you pay for. i found a guy that does amazing work, but he's expensive as hell and takes a while. cars come back brand new looking when he's done though. id rather bite the bullet from the start, than be miserable for a few years with bad looking body work. matter of fact, he's had my car for 2 weeks now, and hopefully ill get it back in 2 weeks or so. a month without the stang sucks, but it sure will feel faster when i get back in her compared to this crappy camry ive been driving.
