Hi Guys, I just did a AOD swap on my 67 mustang and have installed the T.V. cable and have it installed on the tranny top dead center (Idle). Well, as soon as I start the car, the vacumn pressure shoots up to like 10 psi (Gauge 0-10 psi). It is suppose to be at 0-3 psi at idle. The T.V. cable at the holley 600 carb does not have any tension on it and the pressure still shoots up. Any ideas? Also, guys being a tranny newb, do you guys know of common symptoms of a bad valve body. It is a 1991 stock AOD with a stock Valve Body (not manual). Thanks in advance for any information you can provide me.
The only thing I can say in your situation is that you will probably be better off towing the car to ta transmission shop, and have them do the adjustments. Your trans will fail quickly if it isn't done properly.
to a degree...eehh..maybe... too much TV pressure isn't nearly as bad as not enough...In fact, the stock AOD pressure calls for ~35 psi and I'm running mine at 45 with fantastic results. all that really needs to be done is take the slack out of the line....and that it IS hooked up.... also...are you SURE you're hooking it into the right port on the side of the belhousing?? also...what makes you think you've got a bad VB?
Yeah, the good thing is having too much pressure is better than no pressure. But why at idle, it should be close to 0psi and it just shoots up. As far as a bad valve body, I am just trying to understand what symptoms occur when one goes bad. Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
play with your TV pressure arm then....might be that its stuck...also if you've not already, It wouldn't hurt to pull the VB out and give it a good cleaning
You shouldn't show any PSI at idle. Generally. You want to see 35-38 when the ball is pulled like out a certain distance. I forget what it is, but I believe it was close to 9/16. I forget. I have a tool no that holds the line while I check it. But when you release, you will close to snug when set in the correct area. jlangholzj is right though. Either the valve is sticking or the arm is if you have slack and psi at idle.
exactly the right range. a little more will make a firmer shift is about it, and it will ever so slightly make the RPM range shorter... have fun, looks like you've got some work ahead of you
Thanks Guys, I will be checking the valve body to see if it is sticking. I get the same reading (above 10 PSI) at idle when in neutral.
