how long are stock axels on a 1969 mustang with 9 inch rear?

I am upgrading my stock 28 spline axels to 31 splined axels and a Detroit Locker. This is for a 1969 Mach 1 that came with a 351W, FMX tranny, and a 9 inch rear.

I see at Summit that direct fit replacement rear axels for a 1969 Ford 9 inch come in either 27.125 inches or 31.250 inches. How do I determine which length to order? Both say that they fit my application.

According to my Ford Parts Interchange Manual the 69 axles used before build date 3/15/69 the axles were 31 1/8" for right and 27 1/16" for left. The axles used after build date 3/15/69 were 30 1/8" for right and 27 1/16 for left. I would say that you need one of each.

Yep, one of each is required.
