ive been looking and looking and looking for awhile now. and i think ive narrowed it down to just a simple Trick Flow kit... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=TFS-K514-360350B&autoview=sku my question is, whos running a stock block and what were the miles when u started modifying? you think it would be safe to mod a motor out @ 103k miles? the motor runs very well and strong, atleast so i think. little sluggish now, but needs a tune up as i havent done one in 2 years! i want to wake up the car a little bit, give it a nice sound motor wise... but i also dont want to bite myself in the ass and blow my block and/or my newly rebuilt AODE.... also if it helps, i am having 4.10s installed in the rear... Matt, if this is the wrong section i do apologize, please move...
i dont think its burning, if nething its leaking... but that would probably be because of a gasket... but thats worse case... BTW, i just added the link to the trick flow package if neone needed a reference as to what i was talkin about...
I put a supercharger on my 95 GT with 125K on it and it was fine. Its all in the condition of the motor not necessarily the mileage. If The trick flow kit is a great kit to go with and just doing that with 103K you don't have anything to worry about as long as the motor is sound.
Buddy of mine popped a HG on his 87GT with well over 100k and running a 150 shot of n2o for a good while and driving the tar out of the car. Each cyl still had cross hatch marks all the way down the cyl. I took apart my shortblock after I found a 33% drop in a cyl. each cyl still had cross hatch. I thought I toasted a ringland nope...rings were just wore out. I already had a DSS shortblock as I planned for the worst before that point. The 5.0 is a very durable motor that will last a long time if half arsed maintained. Honda and Yota can blab all they want but those sludge machines dream of what a 5.0 can live threw...while making good power too.
i would like to go 331 stroker eventually, but obviously its not allowed at this point.... i bought the car 2 years ago and have only put 16k on it since... it seems like the 2 owners before hand were the type to maintain... the last owner had all the first owners records, PLUS his... shouldve asked him for them, no biggie.... but i try my best to maintain.... when doing the HCI swap, are there any suggestions as to what to change/replace while im there?
Ive seen others say you will need a higher volume fuel pump, bigger injectors, and a maf calibrated to the injectors. Also, to maximize it, jump to a 75mm throttle body to match the trickflow intake. I would probably do a 255 fuel pump, just so you never really need to go bigger later down the road, but as far as the injectors there are options. Some say get 24s or 36s, but others say if you plan on more later, to get some big ones like 42s, and have them calibrated for your combination through a chip or tuner... It depends on what you plan to do with the car later. If you ever plan on adding boost, then buy the big injectors once and have them calibrated through the computer.
Things to change: Fuel pump Injectors & MAF lifters timing chain Those along with HCI and supporting mods should put a on your face for a while.
94 Mustang upgrades I put a brand new engine in my 94 mustang. Its got about 18k miles on it now and i did some upgrades. I put ford racing cams and and a trick flow intake upper and lower. New mass air flow sensor with 19lb injectors. My question is what can i do to make the idle right. I read on here that the a9l computer will help but i ordered one and didn't realize it doesn't just plug right in. any suggestions
I did HCI at about 110k miles and did my turbo around 130k. I pulled my motor this winter with about 138k on it and it was clean with really nice cross hatching.
well i can only hope for the best with mine.... the car is gettin alittle sluggish, starting to feel as if im a n00b learnin to drive a 5spd sometimes... hopefully the tune up will clear it out. probably gonna be ordering this black powdercoated kit, just gonna take forever to get it
Here is the best advice you will ever get. Do not start throwing parts at your car when it is not running top notch. Do one step at a time, get it running well at each step. Throwing money at it will not solve the root of the problem, if there is one. I have seen people buy more parts when their cars did not run the numbers they should and it never seems to turn out well. I got my car running 13.8's with catback, gears etc. It didn't have that much left in it. then I did the HCI and ran 13.1's, which was pretty good for a lowered street car with 17" rims and gt40p's without a dyno tune. Then the turbo went on and I trapped 125mph the first time out I think. It doesn't really run the number it should, but it is b/c of traction at this point.
