A few months back I decided to purchase another Mustang. Although I already have my hands full working on completing my ’65 Mustang coupe, I simply could not pass up the opportunity to buy a rare 1965 Mustang that few people know about, let alone own! Already with one large project on my plate, I immediately put the car into storage knowing that it would take some work to get ready for the asphalt.

With my ’65 coupe getting closer to completion every day, I decided that it was time to begin working on my new project. I began stripping the body today to prepare for the body work that will need to be done. My goal is to have both Mustangs finished up this spring so that I can show both of the cars together.

Here are some pictures before I began stripping the body.

This car is an original Mustang Junior produced by the Powercar company. The serial number on the car is #136. Two versions of these cars were produced, an electric version and the more rare gas powered version. My car is the gas powered version.

Under an agreement with Ford, the Powercar company produced just over 600 of these cars between the years 1964 thru 1967. These cars were given away as promotional items and sold in Ford dealerships to those that could afford them. These were not cheap toys. The gas powered version that I purchased sold new for $540 back in 1965.

I will keep updating this post during the restoration process.

If you would like more information on these cars check out Junior Central Mustang page

    Later,

Thats going to be a cool project. When I first saw it, it reminded me of those goofy Miata Mustangs.

Very cool! I have a similar project going on myself. It's not a Mustang Jr. but along those lines. It used a more generic go-kart frame and the bodies were made by a Company in Tempe, AZ.

I bought it from a friend a year or so ago, to fix up for our daughter.

My buddy and I had plans to modify the frame but decided building a new one would be easier.

    Good luck with your project!
