some guy in a older model thunderbird (mid 90's) came up to me on Friday and said he'd race me for my car. He had a supercharged sticker/emblem on the side of his car and you could hear it too. Of course i said no but what kind of numbers could he be laying down with out even knowing wat kind of supercharger he was running? How bad would i have gotten beat? Also i hate people who do crap like this. They think because you modded your car and everything that all of a sudden your gonna race no matter what. It jus gets a little old after a while.

Gotta watch out for those guys with modded MN12's. ;)

Let me put it this way......I'd worry about NO stock (or even average bolt on) Mustang short of an '03 Cobra or GT500 outrunning me in my Cougar....and even then with good traction it could come down to a drivers race.

As far as the old boy goes.....if it's whistling, it's probably a centrifugal (the PD blowers are pretty quite by comparison). Judging from most of the centrifugal swaps I've seen with the MN12's, that likely means it's a Vortech S-Trim under the hood. So take whatever fear you have of guys running Mustangs with Vortech S-Trims, add 500lbs and an Automatic transmission and go from there. The car could run anywhere form mid-13’s to high-11’s depending on how “involved” he got with other modifications

Either way, racing for pinks is stupid no matter what you drive. Too many uncontrollable factors to deal with and too much money to be playing around with to go it on chance alone!

I would have told him to take his thunderchicken and park it up his bum. Race for pinks... Nobody does that anymore. No one would actually hand their car over either.

Lol, the one time I had a guy ask to race for slips (and I think he was kidding) I just put on a real serious face, pointed to my NRA sticker, and told him that if I wanted his car I would just take it. The bullet would be cheaper than the gas. He laughed. I kept the serious look. He rolled his window up. Lol. I almost pissed myself laughing on the way home.

shouldve ran it, prolly just a SC or a LX with a aed kit, nothing to be scared of either way. if you somehow lost the straight line, you could just make a turn at an above average speed and watch as the insane body roll and inferior irs owns him. or just hop on the freeway and wait for his tranny to burn up. or just zip through a hole in traffic he cant fit his barge through.

lol gearbanger what times do you have on that thing? i doubt its anywhere close to even a stock termie or gt500, let alone a slightly modded (pulley, tuned) one.

I had a guy ask me to race for pay checks at work. I guess I said yes 2 quickly and he backed out in a hurry. He had a 69 camaro with a 302 zapper and a 4 spd. He thinks the car is so fast. When I told him what I run he never asked to race me again. Silly Chevy Boy.

If it were a stock SC, then I'd say he should easily be able to handle him, but Supercoupe owners are a lot like Fox body owners. The stock ones are becoming few and far between and some of those little 3.8L cars are running low-12's and high-11's with back yard mechanic type mods.

And the 4.6L AED cars being nothing to be scared of, huh....I guess if you consider taking a 15-second car into the low-13’s on street tires with just the base 6psi kit and your usual bolt-ons nothing worry about, then more power to you. But that's faster than any stock Mustang GT that I've ever seen. The person who sold me my kit (and whom I modeled my own car after) ran 11.88@116mph with his bolt on, PI headed AED T-Bird with the stock M90S and a pulley swap, sucking 103 Octane. He now runs the AED race kit with the Whipple 2300AX and has gone as fast as 10.50@130mph, so discounting them altogether only proves your ignorance to their capabilities.

And you're seriously mistaken if you think any stock Fox or SN95 will walk an MN12 in the twisties. The IRS rear end in the MN12 is far superior to the solid axle used in the Mustang and the Sport version of these cars will easily walk away from a Mustang going in and coming out of a corner. I can take an on/off ramp at speeds way faster in my Cougar than I could have ever dreamed of in my Fox....and my buddy with his '02 GT 5-speed with full exhaust and XCal tune can't hold a candle to me in any sort of match up (with the exception of braking).

As far as the transmission go....If it's anything before '96 I'll agree 100% with you on it burning up, but it’s the stop and go traffic that kills them, not running down the freeway. The '96-'97 cars on the other hand use the same 4R70W as the one found in the '96-'98 Mustang GT. Besides, if they guys put the kind of money and work involved in strapping a blower to his Bird, it's a pretty good bet that he's done some work to his transmission as well. My JMod 4R70W with worked Marauder torque converter is probably the best performing transmission I've ever owned and regularly breaks them loose going into 3rd gear.

As far as times for my own car....none have been recorded, since I have yet to finish installing and fine tuning my A/F ratio my wide band LC1 set up, but rest assured its already proven itself much, much faster than any stock GT I’ve come across. That being said, you need to re-read my original post, I mentioned nothing about outrunning a bolt on Terminator or GT500. I was making reference to a GT in that instance. Even still…stock Cobra’s and GT500’s are running in the mid/high-12 second range in stock trim at best. I should be able to run as fast or faster than that once tuned properly. Hell, even as it sits now when I had the stock 3.27's in the rear, I was able to fry the tires downshifting at 70km/hr by doing nothing more then stabbing the accelerator. How many 4R70W equipped GT’s do you know of that can do that without the use of a power adder? While we’re on the subject….what kind of times do you run in your car….care to share? ;)

Take a long, hard look at the mods listed in my garage and ask yourself how sure you are that an MN12 couldn’t possibly hang with, or outperform a Mustang. ;)

Or better yet, it you still doubt that these Luxobarges have any sort of potential and can’t be made fast, feel free to look this over....it might just open your eyes!

As soon as he said "for pinks" I would have laughed in his face and the conversation would have been over.

true, but then again, youre comparing a stock to mildly modded mustang to a heavily modded thunderturd. apples to cucumbers my friend.

    thats it? 10.5's?

I suppose it would be apples to cucumbers if in fact this was a mod, for mod comparison, but in reality the statement was made to quell any beliefs by lesser informed Mustang owners (like yourself) that these cars couldn't be made more than a match for a Mustang GT in the hands of the right person, with relative ease. :)
I'm sorry....add a 4R70W, an IRS rear end, another 12 ½” to the wheel base and 500lbs (mostly to the nose) to an SN95 and let’s see how well it fairs!!!

The point is, that mid-10’s, with 130mph trap speeds is extremely impressive for any street driven car. The fact that it’s being accomplished by a 4,000lb glorified insurance salesman’s car makes it even more so!

You don’t have to like it, but ignore it and you could find yourself staring at “thunderturd” tail lights with you jaw hanging open. ;)

Him: "uhh yeah dude so like I told him we will race for cars and like he lost and uhhh..like now he won't give me his car.."
Cop: "You have the right to remain silent..."
