Good drivin' man congrats on 2nd. There are a few autocrosses around here and some mustang guys run them as well. I have thought about doing it myself and still might I grew up on one of the countriest and curviest roads in the state (when they re-black topped it motorbike groups were coming from 2 states away to ride it). and loved it but that was not flat. Dont sell the sn95 platform short...another local guy builds and races in a series that includes the mid ohio runoffs and has outran vetts in a 95 cobra with better pads otherwise stock. A few well picked parts can make an all around fun car...you may loose alittle at the track but if you have an adj. shock spring setup it might not be too bad.
i did auto-x a few times many years ago, and really never got caught up in it. i tried a few open track days and though they were ok, but again not really my bag. then i heard about the silver state classic and did the driving school last year and plan on doing the race as well as a couple more local open road events this coming spring. if you are an absolute speed junky like me then you MUST do an open road rally. http://www.sscc.us/
A guy I know is building a stroker turbo monte that he wants to run in the silver state classic. All global west susp. TONS of custom crap, the motor made like 500hp with no boost...wants to gear it to go over 200mph.
it is very very hard to hit 200+ noone hit it in september aero is extremely important. in a properly prepped fox body it takes roughly 725hp to break 200. tell him good luck.
500hp with no boost and a turbo that will run 22-24lbs...looking at 1,000-1,200hp. Yeah, he has heard/been told aero playes a HUGE role. I just hope he takes the time to get it down. The guy has no problem testing and doing it again and again...deff. the more money than brains club in that dept.
there are runs a bit more local he can test at. arnold, nebraska--supposed to have the crappiest roads for open road texas has a run out west that is supposed to have good roads, but not as long as nevada. if you ever get some pics i would LOVE to see his buildup--cars like that give me great wood.
