I just bought 6 new speakers and CD player from Crutchfield for my fox. I buy from crutchfield b/c I like to get all the wiring harnesses (keeps it clean and professional). For some reason it never occurred to me that the previous owner wouldn't share the same feelings and ideas. I have a bunch of wiring harnesses I couldn't use b/c he cut all the factory harnesses. I can live with it but for some reason he pulled the back speakers and replaced them with 6x9s from the 70s. They were paper Pioneer speakers......PAPER PAPER PAPER!!! NO TWEETER.....JUST PAPER. Now I'm getting angry again. Anyways, now there is no bracket and the hole is huge b/c he just had the speaker laying in there. Here are some pics:

Yeah, I thought it was messed up. Now i have to create some kinda bracket....
The weird part is that the speaker grill looks like it is made for 6x9s. It looks kinda big.

You can probably build a wooden support that will sit on the wheel house and hold your speaker properly.... Or some type of metal bracket coming off of the wheel house to hold it in position.

Sorry about your factory wiring... try hitting a J/Y for the speaker connectors. You can hard wire all of that stuff back into the car.

Some .040 aluminum sheet would be just the ticket. Make a cardboard template to get the shape of the speaker and the mount it sits in. Once you are satisfied with the way the template fits, use it to layout the pattern in the aluminum sheet.

The rear speakers in a hatch are actually screwed to the rear speaker grilles. The correct size is a 5x7 or a 6x8 (same thing). Unless he messed the grille up then the new polk speaker you have should screw right to existing holes on the back of the rear speaker grilles. Trust me, I do this every day for a living. Unless he messed the rear grilles up and you cannot screw the speaker to it then you dont need to build any brackets.

You are exactly right!! I just got home from work and looked at the grills.....4 pegs waiting for some screws. I had to do a little fabrication b/c some of the pegs were broken. Now I have all 6 speakers running clear!! Thanks!

Now I definetly need a sub or two......the clarity if awesome, the lack of bass was expected but I cannot be without it very long :) .

Yeah, are you enjoying that as much as I was when I saw it? Now it is taped up and put up. Everything has been done right.........this mustang hasn't experienced this in a while.
