I need help getting the right speedo gear, ford says it can't be done

I switched from a 2.73 to a 4.10. The parts guy says the drive gear won't allow for a proper speedo gear to fix problem. I guess the drive gear is machined on. The motorsport catalog says the swap isn't practical because of that. Steeda makes one but it says an in-line reducer is recommended for 4.10's. What the heck is that??? They use the same speedo gear from 3.55's on up. Grrrr!!!

a 23 tooth is the highest they go and are dead on for 3.55's, a couple off for 3.73's and a few more off for 4.10's. To correctly fix your problem, you'll need to pull the tailshaft housing off the tranny and swap out the drive gear also, unless you can live with a speedo being about 5mph off

Yea, the autos have the drive gear as part of the main output shaft, so you cant just pop in a new drive gear like you can on a 5-speed tranny. I know some people have talked about the Speedcal recalibration tool on here so you may want to look into that.
