Motor mounts I bet. Lots of threads out there on replacing them.

Either motor mounts, or the motor has been out of the car and was put back in crooked. If the car still has the stock motor mounts, pick up a new pair and use a level to install them carefully.

If the mounts were that worn out I'd imagine he would notice some other things like noise under heavy acceleration and shudder.

Did you just buy the car or have you had it for a while and just noticed this?
