If not a Mustang, then what?

I am assuming you all must have similar taste in cars since we all own a S197 Stangs. What if the S197 Stang was not available, what car would you own?

As I read thru all of the posts in the forum, I found several where owners were having problems with their cars and going thru the lemon laws or arbitration to make things right. What if Ford did not make things right, would you give up the Mustang for another car? If so, what car would you choose and why?

If there was no s197, then I think I'd be stuck waiting for the Camaro or challenger. Sadly, it seems that old fashioned RWD american muscle is dead and gone right now, but is making a strong come back. Yeah, I'd love a vette, but that's just slightly out of my price range.

Sadly, aside from the S197, what else in out there in that category? A Charger? they look pretty nice, but are heavy as all hell, don't look *that* great, and performance models are only available in auto. I like the car, and the way it looks..... but to call it a "Charger" is almost a crime against nature. At best, it is a new Coronet. Plus, a SRT-8 is what, $47k? The only other option is the GTO. Granted, I've almost alway been a Chevy guy ( until I bought my stang). But to me, the GTO is an abomination. Yeah, it may perform almost as well as a Corvette, but it looks like a freaking Cavalier. I won't even consider a GTO until GM remembers what they used to be. Dual headlights, hoodscoop, a driver oriented interior, a light body, and an engine of at LEAST 389 cubes, preferably with some kind of modern equivalent of 3 deuces. Until then, the new GTO isn't a Goat in my book. A tiger jumping out of the hood of the new one just doesn't have the same effect it did in the mid to late 60's.

In the end, if the S197 wasn't around.... I'd still be driving my POS 96 mazda, waiting for 2009....

i am a ford loyal customer, its in the family and everone in the family only drives fords My Grandfather was a fodr mechanic). You know i will probably get alot of negitive feed back on this so i appologize now for it! But the foreign cars are out pacing north american cars in quality, reliability, price and warrenty. My car has had alot of in garage time at the dealership for things that shouldnt be in a new vehicle. Such as windows leaking, rear end whining, replacing rotors after 10K miles, poor paint and many more problems( and yes this was before it got rearended)
I started driving in a 79 zephyr to a 89 tempo, to an 95 escort, to a 01 windstar and now to my 06 gt. and the quality by the years have steadily decreased.
Had I not been a loyal ford customer i would go with a nissan altima.( or an M5 if i could sell my kids for it)
I know its a bit off topic but oh well.

Not to turn this into a b&tching session, but I'm disappointed in my 06 GT. I've owned nothing but Fords, but I feel too many items are just not right on my GT for being a brand new vehicle and I still have thoughts of selling it. Problem is, I don't know what I'd buy if I did sell it.

First thoughts are - Find a clean Fox body to drive again, FJ Cruiser, F-150, or some type of sport sedan (Acura, Lincoln LS)

I asked the guestion because . . .
1. I didn't even give it a thought about build quality or being loyal to Ford and found myself simply wanting a new sports car at a reasonable price.
2. I looked into purchasing a used car ('65 thru '70) but couldn't bring myself to spend $20 to $30k for old technology
3. Done the Porsches, BMWs, and Volvos. While I liked them, found that owning an older one is just too costly and don't even think about trying to get any resell out of the car if it has more than 120k miles on it.
4. I hate GM products. I have driven the Dodge Charger and found it to be too big and unresponsive. Sat in the Mita and did not fit in it well, my eyes were right at the top of the windshield frame and it is just too small a car - need more sheet metal around me!
5. Nothing else seems to spark an interest in my desires to own. At this stage of my life I need fun factor.

Bottom line, I'd look for an 1968 Mustang convertible or 1970 Cougar XR-7 Convertible, until then, drive my Jeep Scrambler.

I have lots of options but first i would have held on to my 02 gt longer. then i would have been able to swing a vette, if not a vette probably gto. If i wasn't single and had wife and kids it would bee a marauder or a maxima. V8, rear wheel, 2 door is kind of a big thing for me, it's what turned my on to them, back in 02 they had the only show. Finally as for the camaro, i don't think we'd be seeing it's return if it wasn't for the s197!!
