Inlet Pipe Question?

On a 02 Mustang there are two hoses that come off the inlet pipe. One has a little black box inline attached to the hose. Does anyone know what this box is and what purpose it has? I'm getting a loud whistle coming out of it, but I have no idea what it is. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmmmm...interesting...I don't have a solution, but I think I have the same problem on my 02. It just started in the last couple of weeks. I installed the Accufab and C&L parts back in Feb so I don't suspect those pieces. I opened the hood but couldn't determine the source of the whistle. Only occurs (or is noticable) at idle w/o the a/c on. Thought it might be the alternator, but didn't seem to be coming from there. I've subscribed... I'll pull out the ol stethoscope and see if I can determine the source a little better.

That is a silencer for idle air control motor inlet.
