  4. Thank You this got me on the right path:hail:

  5. All 87-93 GT's had Premium Sound. My radio crapped out after abou5 years. The FM tuner wouldn't tune in a portion of the band. Got one from a salvage yard in Arizona, still have the original one for parts. All the wiring diagrams are on my website, EVTM.

  6. But the 1993 system is not the same as the 87-92 system. Different head unit and amplifier

  7. thank you!! this thread has a ton of usefull info, and i found the part about the shorting plug on the back of the radio invaluble since it helped me solve the issue i have been having for months with no/very low audio output. on a side note: does anyone know how to go about using an aftermarket amplifier in place of the factory 80amp? is it even possible?

  8. good write up!

  9. I'll be darned.. I have the "premium" setup. Mind you my passenger door speaker isn't working and one in the rear is blown. Speakers are on the list to fix I suppose but not that high on the list mind you But one day...

  10. I recently acquired a radio/EQ and the amp from a 1992 mustang. I have a 1988 with premium sound and the stock radio. It seems that the radio EQ is not a direct swap. Any advice on how to install the radio EQ and amp in my car? Thanks

  11. Just swap the head units

  14. It looks like this right?

If so, the back looks like this

    c6e4c89f-cbe4-c133.jpg

One wire plugs into the back of the radio and the other connects to the pigtail from the EQ

87-92 use the same connections. It's only 1993 that is different.

  15. did they use these radios in any other ford for the same model years? something to look out for on a junkyard hunt...

  16. Yes, but they don't mount the same. So you would have difficulty installing it in a mustang

  17. The pic are exactly correct. This is the radio EQ I have. My pigtail connector is different. It looks similar to the one that plugs into the radio. I was told that there were two different harnesses based on your choice of the premium without the EQ vs. the premium with EQ. Have you heard of this? Thanks for the help. Ben

  18. Your image in your thread shows what my connections from the pigtail looks like. Only one will fit the radio, the other is incompatible with the EQ connector.

  19. Physically incompatible?

You have a premium stereo right? 6-speakers? If you look behind the radio, there is an amp right? The harness that plugs into the eq harness leads back to the amp?

If you do, that harness is removable. There are 4 connections to unplug and you can remove the harness.

I'll check my wiring diagrams tomorrow to see if wiring is different.

  20. I have premium with the 6 speaker set-up. The amp (football shape) as you describe is located directly behind the radio. I also have the amp that goes with the radio EQ setup (all from a 92 GT). The connectors on the 92 amp are different from my amp. Thanks for looking into the issue for me. I really would like to have the factory radio EQ set-up. BTW, the EQ connector (and one amp connector) has round studs vs. flat slots which do not match up to the harness pigtail. Thanks!
