I met a guy tonight who had an interesting story. He bought a 41 Willys late Saturday night at the Barrett-Jackson car auction (Lot 1075 I believe). Apparently last night's auction went well into the night and a lot of buyers were leaving because of how late it was. The gentleman selling the 41 Willys wanted something in the neighborhood of $90K for his ride. Unfortunately his car sold for $60K (+/-) from the lack of buyers in attendance and he wasn't very happy about that! So, instead of the Barrett-Jackson crew driving off with the car to finish paperwork he did and tried to leave the property with the car! In the process he alledgedly commiting grand theft auto since he no longer owned the car once the gavel dropped. The new owner of the Willys said the now-former owner is now behind bars. What a bad night for that guy!
The risk of no-reserve auctions. Maybe the seller should have chosen a different auction with reserves. Serves him right. What about that Chevelle LS6 Rag? $1.15 mil???????
A friend of my father bought a Charger there last year and the trailer it was in was stolen from the hotel they were at. The thieves ditched the trailer and to this day, they haven't recoverred the car.
