Just wondering if that trend had popped over to domestics from imports...

the corral has a big sticky thread on a guy that's making his whole car of carbon fiber, but around here, I'm pretty sure nobody in the 94/95 section is running anything carbon fiber

    OMFG!

I just spent the past couple hours going through that entire thread. I am speechless. This guy is friggin talented! I can't believe he's just an insurance broker!

By far the most in depth and astonishingly informative project thread I've ever read, with Guero's fart thread coming in second.

A CF hood just isn't worth the cost unless you just happen to find one with a really cool shape that you just gotta have. Otherwise, what's saving 15-20lbs gonna do for you.

Just WAY too much time and effort into something when he could have just gone with something cooler like a factory five kit and molded THOSE panels with CF.

Would it even be that much? It's not like our hoods weigh all that much to being with.

No, but when I go to Autozone and buy plastic hoodpins, a light-up tailpipe, LED washer nozzles, and an official Fast and Furious map light, I'll let you know.

I don't consider a carbon fiber hood tacky, let alone rice, as it seems like you're trying to imply here...

It is a weight saving part, and if I could afford to have carbon fiber peices instead of metal and fiberglass, damn rights I would do it. LED washer nozzles are ridiculous, yes, but carbon fiber to reduce weight is a sure way to get you down the track quicker...

Please don't put a carbon fiber hood on your car.:notnice: It looks perfect the way it is.:D

Seriously though, Carbon fiber hoods look horribly ugly when left unpainted. So even if it is functional, it's still tacky.
And yes, I consider them to be rice. Most people I see that put them on their cars are what you would consider ricers. The margin that a CF hood would help in performance is minimal; but the change in looks is dramatic. THAT is why most people do it. You do realize this, right?

IMO, putting a tacky looking hood on your car should be the last resort. Only after you have tried all other means of making your car fast should you put a CF hood on.

A huge wing can potentially help us get our cars down a track quicker. Would you put one on your car, or not say it's rice if you see one on a Mustang?

Yeah I guess it might save 10 or so lbs. I know his hood finished weighs around 10lbs and the stock hood is probably 20ish lbs but I've never weighed it.

I find it interesting what he is doing the whole cf body, but with the amount of time and money its taking, I hope hes gonna keep his car..

No no, I understand what you're saying, but I still don't believe the concept of a carbon fiber hood is ricey, or tacky....and I definitely agree, I would be one to paint a carbon fiber peice if I were to ever decide to go CF crazy...not painting the hood is somebody showing it off, and usually those people have something to prove, because they are driving a civic or whatnot.

However, the guy on the corral is shooting for a sub 2400 lb mustang....I don't think anybody will ever go to his extent, but I hope you see that every pound lost does count, even if you're trying to get your mustang down to a hefty weight of 3100 lbs....

    does that make any sense?

It makes sense. I know that most supercars use extensive Carbon Fiber.

But I wasn't talking about supercars or even the guy on corral.net. I was referring to the title of the thread, and the idea of ONLY adding a CF hood.

My answer is, NO, it hasn't come over to the domestic side, just like all the Autozone crap I listed didn't come over.
