Is the MPG on 2011 Mustangs for real???

  • Sponsors (?)

I have an 07 GT with a manual trans and 3.55 gears.

I get about 21 mpg/tank with mixed driving. I also have seen 30+ mpg with strict highway driving at 70mph. (Note: I have a drop-in K&N filter, and that has increased my MPG in my last few cars.)

I would think the numbers will be higher with the '11 cars if you drive them right.

Thanks Sparty for the 07 info.

And Slammed, I am talking about the MPG for BOTH the V6 and 5.0.

They are BOTH touting better MPG than the 2010 and previous, with better power and performance.

I am just curious at the MPG the 2011 drivers are ACTUALLY getting right now.

I know the is a Sticky thread just for MPG, but there has been very little 2011 feedback, so I am trying to muster some up.

IF YOU OWN A 2011 MUSTANG (v6 or 5.0) PLEASE POST YOUR MPG!

Thanks,

Did my 1st normal commute two weeks ago with cruise set @ 75 (65 thru Milwaukee) and driving in 6th as much as I could or RPM's around 12-1500 cruising on city streets but typically spirited accelleration thru the gears from every stop.

Trip consists of 1 round trip to & from home (Two Rivers,WI - Skokie,IL approx. 170 mi ... all but maybe 15 mi. is interstate, and all but 5 miles is 55+), then 2 trips to & from my parents house which is 15 mi from work and 1/2 interstate.

Filled up at the local station with the computer saying 19 mi to E ... with a little over 1k miles total on odo this 404.2 mile trip took 14.032 gals or 28.81 MPG !! She's been on a straight diet of Citgo Ethanol Free 91 Premium since my dealership's courtesy fill of 87 E10 so I don't know if this is helping, but it can't hurt.

Computer ave. fuel economy said 26.9 MPG when I left work the night before and had gotten up to 27.7 MPG when I finally got off the interstate 2.25 hrs later. On the way down to work on Monday, the ave got up to 29.1 MPG.

92.7 miles of City/County road driving last weekend netted me only 21.02 MPG ... compared to the 1st fill up after the prior 2 weekends was 209.6 miles @ 21.97 MPG.

My goal of doing my 400+ mile commute on ONE tank of gas has been achieved. And if the MPG's continue to improve as the engine breaks in further, all the better.

FYI ... I do have the std. 2.73 gears so she purrs under 2k RPM's @ 75 MPH (theoretically s/b 1823 RPM @ 75, but tach reads closer to 2k).

All this out of a 3500 lb vehicle with 235mm wide performance tires that easily barks these tires going into 3rd gear ... both the gear head AND miser in me are just lovin' this new daily driver !!

Just refueled yesterday afternoon for this weeks commute ...

397.1 MI / 13.648 GAL = 29.10 MPG for my 2nd full week commute.

More city driving on this tank than the 28.80 MPG tank, so yes it is definitely still improving with 1500 miles on the odo !!

2011 GT 5.0, Red Candy Metallic, Security Package, Brembo Brakes, and 3.73s.

My Mustang read 23.8 MPG when I arrived at my destination, with city and highway driving on an 1 1/2 hour road trip. That includes some down shifting and sprints here and there. The car only had 300 miles on the it and was filled with 87 octane.

I think that is good for a 12 sec car that is not broken in yet.

True these were ideal circumstances, but I do think this settles the question about whether the 305hp Mustang can also do duty as an "Economy Car" when needed.

2011 Ford Mustang V6 Sets HP/MPG Record

I suspect that there will be MANY of the 305hp Mustang owners that will be posting regular hwy MPG in the low 30's.

And maybe even better after thier engines get broken in good.

Any of the 2011 5.0 owners want to let us know what THEY are getting on MPG so far?

If I am cruising around town...or on Woodward Ave., and there is not much stop and go traffic, I have seen 24+ mpg for "city" driving. This would be mostly 3rd and 4th gear....50mph or less. Includes some "spirited" rowing of the gears at times.

Impressive to me for an 07 V8 stick car.

I would think I could pull good numbers with an '11 GT, but alas, I think I'm gonna keep my lowly '07.

Update ...

Last week / (Week 3): 405.3 miles / 13.759 gal = 29.46 MPG
This Week / (Week 4): 407.4 miles / 13.187 gal = 30.89 MPG !!

At the time of fill up today, computer was showing "46 mi to E" and "29.3 AVE MPG", so computer is still off 5.4%. Total miles on car to date is 2420.

A lot less side street driving this week and Defrost or A/C never was needed, so this helped.
