Ok purchased an 89 v8 harness out of a 19k wreck car because I wanted to do a plug and play maf swap into my 88 speed density car and didn't want to mess with moving pins and trying to locate some of those pins etc.

Start yanking the 88's sd harness and notice that the 89 harness has an extra connector down by the ecm.. it's a round white connector. No clue what this could hook up to because my 88's doesn't have it and there's nothing in the immediate area that it matched up to. Any idea guys? here's two pics of it

Also besides that difference I noticed that there isn't any connectors on this 89 harness for my TAD/TAB (two small and one larger rectangle connectors) but instead there are two round white connectors that don't seem to match up. Any idea what these two plugs could be for and why there isn't any for the TAB/TAD?

here's two pics of the entire harness

Do you need to replace the entire harness?

I was always under the assumption that '88/89 mass air harnesses could be separated in the engine bay and would plug into an SD harness. 1990 and up harnesses require the entire engine harness be changed.

FWIW, my 89 harness does not have that extra connector on it either.

ok so you just confirmed for me that im not going nuts but also that I got ripped off :notnice:

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it

For a plug n play affair with an 87-88 car, only a harness from an 89 car would work.. every other harness is different because of crash sensors, air bags and they also changed the wiring locations on a few sensors in the harnesses as well.

You can always run the four wires to the main harness and splice in and move the appropriate pins on the 60 pin connector but I wanted a plug and play setup and don't have a hookup for the harness pins.

Man im soo pissed

Okey, looks like I may have figured this out.. or not but what I've come up with is that late in 89 they switched over to the 90 harness which is what I appear to have.. and is useless to me since the 90 harness is completely different. I'd be better off with a 91 and on harness. But anyway I wrote the guy I got this harness from and he offerd to take the harness back, give me $25 and an fms conversion harness but the conversion harness which is a piggyback setup is missing the wiring from the harness up to the maf sensor.. so I figure i'd take the deal and run my own wiring up to a maf plug I got from a junkyard a year or ago.
