I was just checking out some cobras and saleen online. I ran accross this Nissan website, they have 9 SVT cobras and 3 or 4 saleens. Kind of wierd for a nissan dealership, used car manager must be into mustangs. They have a 2002 white vert with 9K miles listed at 28K which is always negotiable. Tell me what you think about it, is it worth less because of the non saleen mods done to it? Look at the pics and you can see the S/C, which is aftermarket, but then it has the factory S/C hood, which cant be the original hood since it wasnt that way from saleen, i can tell that because it doesnt have the guage pod on the dash. I think this car was on ebay a few months ago and the person was claiming it was pushing over 600HP. It just seems like a pretty good price being a vert with 9K miles, because i'm sure you could get it for 25K or so. I bought my 02 last year for 25k with the same miles except the only difference is mine is a coupe and also N/A, but mine was all original. Makes me feel like i paid a little too much if i could have had something like this. Also, check out the green 2000 saleen listed under the white vert. I didnt know they made that color, is it a Faleen? It doesn have the engine compartment saleen badge or the bumper no. If it is a Faleen, wtf are they doing advertising it as a saleen. Here is the link: http://www.northtexasnissan.com/Used-Vehicle-Search.aspx you might have to punch in ford mustang under the search if it doesnt pull it up automatically.
The link doesn't seem to be working. But from what you described, you've answered your own question. If the bumper # & particularly the underhood plaque are missing, it's in all likelihood a fake. A Nissan dealer probably wouldn't know the difference between a real Saleen & a fake, nor would they care if they knew. All they would care about is selling the vehicle for as high a profit as possible. If it means deliberately or unintentionally misrepresenting a fake Saleen as a real one & relying on the knowledge (or lack thereof) of a potential customer to know the difference, then so be it.
was that orange one an extreme it said it had the 6-speed and i thought only the Ecars had the 6-speed.
The link just takes you to the search page, if you select search ford mustang it pulls up all the cobras and saleens. I couldnt get the link to save the search. Yeah, i dont know if the orange saleen is an E car. It says six speed and then has the Extreme spoiler and center exhaust. But i dont know if that is the norm for 2004 cars, btw, did they make E cars in 2004?
The orange is a regular s281sc, it doesn't have the e-hood. The 04's had the center exhaust and e-wing. I also have never seen any comp orange 281e's although you'd have to research that one. I like the beryllium color better myself.
yeah that is what i thought but i thought they only put six speeds in Cobras and E cars maybe it is a typo.
i could of sworn ive seen an orange EXTREME before. And i thought the E hook looked similar to the reg. sc cars except for it having edges within the hood vents?? also i am almost certain only E's and cobras had 6 speeds!
Q: Is this saleen worth less because of the mods? A: Yes. Almost every time. Keep in mind these are collector's cars. Saleen owners are discriminating. They have to be, otherwise we would just go buy GT's and go mod crazy, pumpin the car up to 500hp or until it explodes (no offense to the GT guys since that can be fun too). It took me nearly 3 months to find the right car. I wanted to buy it from some anal-retentive whacko who was twice as discriminating as I was, that way I knew I was getting a nice car. Nearly everyone on this board is a car freak (and I am definately no exception). You can't go swappin this and that and still expect the car to demand top dollar. Mods usually frighten buyers in that they may not have been installed properly, the seller may have driven the car hard, and that there may be other unknown mods the seller conveniently forgot to mention. I would steer clear of that buy. Happy hunting.
The white one and green one both have dash and under hood plaques if you look very closely. Doesn't necessarily make them real Saleens... You'd need the vins and bumper numbers to tell from the book or you'd have to call Liz.
There were only a couple of the Forest Green Saleens made in 2000, I did some research because my cloner is that color. But yes they did make a couple of them. Also to my knowledge there are NO GEnuine Saleens made Green with the Gold Saleen graphics like my cloner. ------>
Q: Is the Saleen Worth Less because of the Mods? A: Yes, Almost all the Time! I would have to agree with Cali S281 SC on this one! There are alot of different types of Saleen owners out there and I'm sure most of them would all agree that when you start adding different types of modifications to a Saleen, the cars value & authenticity depreciates and theres a loss in the cars Originality! But with that being said, you have to ask yourself, If your a Saleen Owner, why do you have the car??? Investment?? (Which you wouldn't want to change a thing on the car, barely drive the car, keep all the Original stuff, hold on to it for a long time or wait til Steve kick's the bucket before its ever going to be worth more than what it originally went for!) Weekend Warrior or Cruiser?? (You might want to modify the car to make it better and personal in your own unique way) Daily driver?? (You may want to modify the car so it will run & perform better in every day conditions/situations?) What ever the reason for changing a Saleen from its original state and Modifying it, one has to remember that they are All Ford Mustangs! In the History of Mustangs people have always loved to make their Stangs unique and Personal to their tastes! This has been happening from day one, since 1964 1/2! I'm a strong believer that if your going to modify a Saleen it should be done tasteful and with Saleen parts that could be had on your car when New for that specific year! But then again that goes with how Rare your Saleen might be, options it came with etc... The One of a kind Saleens, which there are quite a few of for each year made, you might not want to do much to them and keep them original! No Mods and don't drive them, but wheres the FUN in that? What ever the reason one bought their Saleen for, Hopefully its to be driven and for Fun! And by the way Cali S281 SC It only took you 3 months to find the right car??? It took me about 1 1/2 years on the first Saleen and more time on the others, which drove and has driven my wife crazy on a daily basis!
The six speed was an option. There was a white 2004 SC with a 6spd at the saleen dealer where I bought my car. I've modded my car and I'm sure its hurting the value some, but what's probably hurting its value more is all the miles I'm putting on it. But damn those are some fun miles.
Not mine. Mine is the "SA-20 Prototype S281 Snow Plow Edition" which gets me into the "White Speedster Club" I have seen it in person though. I don't think I took pictures of it, but did spend some talking with the owner a few years ago back in VA.
