Rather than further take over ViperNuge's thread I figured I'd start my own....lol Well, my day at the track was ok......I was a bit dissapointed in my times, but everyone who was on street tires was having trouble with wheelspin both on the launch and shifting into second. I got in 3 runs before I had to leave because I got called in to work. My times were 14.021, 14.169, and 14.369. On the second run I totally missed 3rd gear. So, my driving sucked, traction sucked, but it was still a great day at the track So here are my timeslips for forensic analysis:
Not bad at all if your car is pretty much stock. What's the altitude at your track? I had a test and tune day a couple of weeks ago and I had the same tire spin problems you had, so ET Street Radials are going on before I go back to the track next season. Good luck to ya in the futrue at the track
Two 100's away from the 13's!! So close.. I would say you had a great first time at the track. Shifting is so much more difficult than running an auto. Dont beat up on yourself, you will get better. It only takes seat time. Keep going when they open again. patrick
Yeah, I'm completely stock except for a 93 octane Brenspeed tune, SLP Loudmouths (which I don't think really affect performance), and FRPP 1.5" lowering springs (which, without other components, probably don't affect performance either). I'm not worried about it....I had a great time at the track. I wasn't racing anyone, just getting a baseline on my mostly stock car to see what I should be looking at doing to it over the winter. I'm hoping to get a set of nitto 555s and get the suspension done. Most of the other cars that were there were heavily modified and were running at least drag radials. I was the only S-197 there Then, as Patrick said, one the track is open I'll be going all of the time and hopefully improve my driving quite a bit. Now my 11 yr old daughter wants a Jr Dragster.......LOL
Next time you go, talk Ron into going to and I'll join ya'all. That would be a blast. I recognized your car from the video he sent me....lol
Yeah, next year I'll definately be going regularly. Ron might go out there a few times, but I doubt that he'll run his car. Do you have LEDs in your headlights? I thought that I saw you at Lane and High last week..........
Yep. I have the Halo effect headlights. I remember seeing a gray GT sitting at the intersection, I was out for a cruise on lunch since it was nice and I had brought the Stang that day.

Well, I notice pretty much every 'stang I see, but there aren't too many modded ones around here. And I could tell it was you by the mods that you've talked about on here. The lights and the exhaust sound gave you away
Cant do that here...........way too many rentals here. I see dozens everyday. Only one worth a sh#t was last years Shelby GT-H (Hertz). Sounded really nice and looked cool, the rest are v6 verts. patrick
Yeah there's a few of those around here. And I do look everytime but I can tell at a .004 millisecond glance if it's stock, clean ect ect. Yeah Bradlem, I guess the o/r H and Bassani on mine would tend to make it stand out a bit. haha I absolutely love making people's heads whip it around to see what the hell just roared. lol
Hell yeah!!! I still need to upgrade my wheels and increase the tone of the exhaust to get that full "WTF was that" effect! LOL patrick
At least for me, the way a car sounds gets more attention from me than anything else...It's the first and last thing that I notice, and I can usually tell what kinds of mods it has by the sound.... Lots of people customize their cars with visual elements (rims, badges, and other types of bling), but how a car sounds gives a clue to its performance. Although an axle back on these mustangs doesn't really do much for power, most people who want a more aggressive sounding car are also aimed at having more power, and are likely to do performance mods vs just asthetics. When I was at the track sitting in the staging lanes, I overheard some guys next to me who were running highly modified cars on slicks say about my car "Theres no way that thing is completely stock, he's got to have something done to it." just because of the way it sounds. And on the street I very rarely have anyone even attempt to play, just because of how my car sounds. The OEM exhaust sounds OK, but a good aftermarket exhaust definately makes a statement
Yeah, I travel for work sometimes, and I would always rent a mustang 'vert. But when I go to places like Miami or LA, a V6 mustang convertible just screams "Rental".....lol So, now when I rent cars, I use it as an opportunity to try out different models, not that I'll ever stop driving a Mustang....
Yup.............the thing about the mustang is with just aftermarket mufflers the tone is amazing. With so little spent it sounds like a beast! patrick
i probably wouldnt go for nitto drag radials. i've got a set right now, that i haven't hooked good once with. every launch i've spun pretty bad, going into second.. these tires are pretty much done, so i intend on replacing them with mickey thompson drag radials at the beginning of this season after completely turning these tires into a pile of rubber.
Nittos last longer at the expense of not hooking well. I run BFG drag radials with 18 psi, and they hook with no wheelspin in my supercharged 07 GT launching at 4,800 rpm's.
Yeah, I've heard that alot of people prefer the M/Ts. Maybe I'd be better off with regular Nitto 555 (not the 555R) for regular daily driving, then get a set of M/Ts to swap out for the strip. (unless there are better tires for d/d) I'm still up in the air on the whole tire/rim thing right now. Soooo many options. I know that I want to go fat/skinny. I know that I want to get anthrecite bullet rims for d/d. Having the option of bigger brakes would be nice. BUT that would mean other sacrifices. Weight is one. Also the ideal situation that I envision is this: Offset Nitto 555s (or comparible) on anthrecite bullets for d/d M/Ts on Bogarts for the track...I'm thinking drag radials still, because I'm not ready to start breaking s**t with slicks and if possible, Bridgestone Blizzaks on my stocker 16s for winter, because I live in Ohio and haven't gotten another 4x4 to drive.....but that rules out the big brake kit.
