From: http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/02/05/ford-demands-gm-nbc-pull-chevy-super-bowl-ad/ Ford demands GM, NBC pull Chevy Super Bowl ad Published February 05, 2012 In response to a Super Bowl ad for Chevy trucks, Ford has sent letters to both GM and NBC asking that the $7 million ad be pulled from the air during the game, Jalopnik.com reported. The minute-long ad, titled “2012,” features a Silverado Chevy truck driving through the ruins of a city after the 2012 apocalypse as predicted by the Mayans. But Ford is angered by the suggestion in the ad that a driver of a Ford truck would not be among the survivors. According to Motoramic.com, Ford sent a cease and desist letter to Chevrolet and are pressuring NBC to pull the ad. GM Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick responded with a press release saying the company stands by its claim that the Silverado is "the most dependable, longest lasting full size pickup on the road," according to Jalopnik.com. "We can wait until the world ends, and if we need to, we will apologize. In the meantime, people who are really worried about the Mayan calendar coming true should buy a Silverado right away," the statement reads. Ford spokesman Mike Levin told Motoramic: “Claims are made in advertising frequently by every auto manufacturer… This type of ad protest happens from time to time,” adding that “we'll always defend our products."
It's nice to see that 7 million dollars of possible taxpayer bailout money got well spent. Oh and there would be no Ford drivers on the planet at the time of the apocalypse because we all left in our new "gov't funding free" spaceships.
Just for the record, Ford did not ask or receive any money from the Government. Both GM and Chrysler had to be bailed out because of the massive incompetency that was rampant at the Executive levels in both companies. In Fact, Ford has, and has had, the best quailty of any brand (even Toyota) for a number of years. At the same time, Ford has been profitable and increasing market share. Note, I'm talking about real quailty - as in repairs needed. Not the BS "quailty rating by owners". Toyota owners are like Apple users - many are mindless drones. Still, Ford is now right behind Toyota in "quailty rating by owners".
They didn't receive a bailout, but they received a loan of $5.9 billion from the US Government. Usually helps to have your facts straight when you make statements.
Awww, was Ford offended... a bad case of Butthurt? Somebody call the : The bailout money is off topic, but I think GM paid that back already. I don't think there is anything wrong with this kind of competition. Ford/Chevy/Dodge used to do it all the time. I think that instead of all this WHINING, Ford should come back with a ad to bash Chevy.
Yep... did you ever see the ad Ford ran that bashed GM for needing govt bail out money? They pulled it at the request of someone... GM or US govt Funny thing is GM trucks really don't last longer than Fords. In fact I believe Fords are generally more reliable and have fewer repairs on average Sent from my cubicle via tapatalk
The 5.9 bill. Was for tooling up to make more fuel efficient cars. Not a bailout. Big difference. All the manufactures benefit from these types of loans. Ford did not take the bail out GM and others took.....
Several things, 1) The Chevy commercial was great, but IMO they should have left it where they said his friend "didn't drive the most dependable truck, etc." as it kind of left it open for all rival manufacturers. Something about calling out Ford didn't come off right. 2) Ford complaining about the ad really makes them look whiny as I fail to see anything that is really offensive about it other then the jab at them, which really was in jest. 3) I know of a guy named Max Rockatansky, he seems to know what to drive for the apocalypse: Oh wait, not a Chevy. . . well, what do the police drive in an apocalyptic future? Hmm, a Blue Oval, okay so maybe the bad guys trust in Chevy: Umm, hmm. . . beginning to see a trend?
Did anybody notice the only "survivors" in that commercial were dudes? I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather die with the apocalypse than be left on a barren planet with a handful of cattle ranchers. GM didn't think that one through, haha. It's a little different. Companies take out loans all the time. You and I take out loans to go to college, to buy cars and houses. Ford just had the foresight to borrow some money before **** hit the fan. On the other hand, Ford's legal department is a little trigger happy, and they need to get off the butt hurt bus with this silly Superbowl commercial stuff.
Its interesting also that Not only did GM get the bailout of around 50 billion they only had to pay back less than 7 billion cash... The rest of the bail out repayment is in the form of stocks which will have to sale at a minimum of 55.oo per share just to break even on the rest of the bail out money they received... as of friday 3 Feb 12 gm stock closed at 26.18 per share..... they have a looooooong way to go to pay us back! and soon after they got the bail out.... they asked for and received another 6 billion......Loan GM can claim all they want that they paid back the bail our but they havent... Im sure all out hard earned $ paid for that super bowl ad.
Pfft. Of course GM will never pay it all back and you all got phucked out of it. Why? because you-know-who wasn't gonna sit back an let the presidential limo be no Lincoln.
Ford reacted to this all wrong. All they did was make themselves look petty, and give GM that much more free press and call that much more attention to the commercial. What Ford should have done was say nothing, and start airing that "GM took bailout money" ad they shelved a few months ago over and over again.
that, or show a shiney new Ford F-150 on a spaceship with a bunch of hot women and Mike Rowe... cut to the 5 dudes standing on earth, and have Mike Rowe say something about Ford planning for the future and managing its finances... therefore saving humankind (while putting his arms around 2 of the many hot women). Kinda need both men and women to procreate. I think that kind of a rebuttal commercial would be hysterical.
That would be a direct demand from the White House. It makes me want to vomit that they did that. I wish Ford would have just said suck it & kept the ads up.
