Hey guys, I've been lurking for quite some time now. I'm gunna be in the market for a stang in the next couple of months. I was originally looking for an 01-03 GT vert, or even a Bullitt if it were a hardtop. Anyhoo, being from Canada, and a Craigslist whore, I decided to look in the US and I saw 01' Cobras for about the same price as a normal GT up here . the one's I'm looking @ are: http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/car/604070687.html I really like this 1 http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/car/602332525.html price is a little more than I wanna spend + the reliability issue of the SC http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/605049181.html This will be my daily driver as it's replacing my baby >> 80' GP sbc with a muncie. Again guys, I've tried to use the search, but with no luck --- you guys know these cars inside and out. Is it just as simple as getting a compression check done and that's it? I really appreciate it guys and TIA
First link looks to be a nice car. There were no pics of the engine or a good quality pic of the inside Second link doesn't work. Third link---- OMG!! Don't buy it. The tail pipes look like ass , and the inetrior is dirty as chit ! That car looks awful!
any1 else . for example, my 01' G Cherokee is known for bad brake design and HVAC/climate ctrls that crap out @ a very expensive fix. They are actual design flaws. Any flaws with the 01 Cobra as the 99 was all screwed up? tia
the 99's had a problem meeting the advertised horsepower figures, they actually had to be taken back to ford for performance upgrades just so they could MEET what was originally said they could do. However, if you manage to find yourself a nice 01 or a 99 with the "fix" done to it, then youre all set. Nothing more to fear except the usual mustang woes (as far as I know), like spark plug blowout, punching the radio in 3rd hear with stock shifter, and wanting more and more power im sure someone else will chime in if theres more fixes or faults to be had on cobras of those years. good luck man.
c'mon guys, gimme sum more stuff to look out for!! Short answers, but hey, if they're no flaws in the 01 Cobra design, then I'm set. wish me luck, but if any1 else wants to chime in that would be great. tia and peace!
Gotta love this site for bad post counter, lol. You posted 5 times in this thread and it only reads 1. I have at LEAST posted 70 it seems and all I have is 18, lol. As for faults for the 99 to 01 cobras...they did need the fix to bring up the hp to the advertise rating, their transmission sucks, in my opinion, their not great and their not bad, just you get bad ones from time to time ...guess I had the bad ones, lol (that would be the first thing I would replace on it and go with the T-56), and as for the "spark plug blow out" I haven't heard of it being on the 99 to 01's only on the 03's. That is because of only three threads in the heads on that year. Other than that they are fine cars. Good luck in you decision
posts only count if there in the tech section, 99-01 cobras are nice, and you dont see to many of them
there are virtually no 99-01 Cobras up here in BC Canada . There are the few 03-04's that are selling for 34ish. Most up here are just GT's and very few Bullitts. An 02 GT vert with a few mods and higher milage (maybe 85-90k miles) can fetch around 16-18k >>>>>>> an 04 GT hardtop is never under 20k. I just had to do some math with buying in the states and then importing into Canada. All i need to do is the math. 01 Cobra vert = asking 15k, hopefully sell for 13.5k add 13% tax do the currency conversion (Canadian dollar is still pretty good) about $400 to make it legal in Canada (turning the daytime running lites on blah blah) make sure it passes emissions (the dam car better have cats on her) and "Bob's your uncle" - if my calcs are correct, the $13,500 USD Cobra will turn into a $16,500 CAD car when all said and dun. An 01' Cobra up here could easily fetch 20k. I could get a GT very easily up here, but I want to be different, and an american 01' Cobra vert for pretty well the same price as a Canadian GT is a better bang for my buck - it'll just take a little bull***** and paperwork. BTW, what are good compression #'s, that'll be the only thing I'll check out before completing the sale. thanx again guys.
Moved to SVT Talk and merged with previous thread. Gotta be patient my friend. Sometimes people don't jump on these threads right away.
