With so many bolt ons and other mods out there its hard to pick and choose which are worthwhile to purchase to attain personal goals. I have a 2001 GT convertible, automatic and made a goal to reach 400 rwhp. I purchased this vehicle less than a week ago from a dealership so did not have the opportunity to ask the previous owner what mods he bolted on. From what I can tell the previous owner bolted on an aftermarket catback, full length subframe connectors, and lowering springs. If anyone can provide me with guidance and/or experience as to what mods I would need to reach this 400 rwhp goal I would greatly appreciate it. Things to keep in mind the car has 77k miles on it, would like a combo to include a positive displacement supercharger, must stay California emissions legal, or easily reverted back to legal. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
A Kenne Bell (the smog legal one), off road x-pipe (gotta swap it out when you smog), a cat back, and some comp cams stage ones (the only cams I know for sure pass). I would assume that would get you pretty close to 400 rwhp, maybe a little more, I not positive what KB's are making. Or go the procharger route if positive displacement isn't a must. With nothing but the procharger on my car dynoed at 394hp/405tq. No exhaust or anything. The only difference would then be the Bullitt intake.
Tork Tech makes a nice setup to run an 03-04 cobra blower with intercooler setup I have seen 402 @ the tires through an auto. Look it up @ Tork Tech Inc. It's an awesome setup for about $5,000 plus tuning and install
Ehhh, what? I must be what out of the loop. OP: +1 on the KB route with full exhaust. this sounds like the right setup for a good dd attitude.
?. Do share. To the OP: The only way your going to reach 400 is with a power adder. I made 417 with my Tork Tech kit, but my car is also manual and also, as mentioned, I don't think there kits are CARB legal.
Ok, another question pops into mind when you mention that just a supercharger will put me over the 400 hp mark. I would like to keep the car reliable so I was thinking of a more conservative psi. Would a 6-9 psi boost on say a kenne bell put me close or over the mark while maintaining reliability of my engine?
As long as you have a good tune, you should have nothing to worry about. I think with a 9 psi kit you should be right where you want to be.
Go with a Kenne Bell. You can change your pulley size from 6psi to 14psi. Depends on your elevation too. I have a 9psi pulley and I'm only getting 6psi out of it at 6350' elevation. Not sure what my hp is since I haven't worked in two years so funds for Dynos and tuning are non-existent.
I've got an 04 GT Vert Auto, here's my current setup: FRPP 3.73'S BAssani O/R X-Pipe Accufab Plenum Accufab 75MM TB Flowmaster 40'S Vortech V3 Supercharger Non-Intercooled Kit running about 6-7psi Dyno'd at 364rwhp Today I'm adding an Anderson Powerpipe and will be adding a 3.33" pulley as well. Current have the stock 3.60" pulley Will get a new tune done and hope to be around 400rwhp about 10-12psi My car is my daily and it has a conservative tune Good Luck
