Mallory Unilite Distributor

I purchased the mallory 3770401 Distributor. I am not able to get any fire from the plugs, or coil. I have followed the directions shipped with the distributor except using a ballast resistor. I am using de OEM coil. How can you test if the distributor is bad?. The distributor that I bought only have three wires in the conector, but the OEM distributor have four.
