Guys, I need some ideas and my Stang needs your help..

I have a 2005 GT that is stock. Last weekend I replaced the rear brakes and all went fine. I drove the car this past week with no problems. This weekend I changed the front brakes and also painted the calipers on front and rear brakes. I also went ahead and rotated the tires.

Now all heck seems to be breaking loose in the rear end. Almost literally with all the banging and popping going on.

The rear end sounds like it slips and then bangs hard into something. It is by far more pronounced if I am turning a corner and letting off of the clutch and giving gas at the same time. I have tried it in different gears and it will make the noise in 1st thru 3rd gears. I even turned off the TCS and that did not help. If I am going straight down the road at speed, all appears to sound fine.

Have I done something wrong or forgotten to do something
Or do I just need to get it to the Ford garage?

    Thanks ahead of time.

Sounds like the problem I'm having with mine only I think I have localized it to an incorrect watts arm placement. Have you checked your suspension? LCA bushings going out can be loud and noisy.

Thanks for the quick come back, but ut definitely is in the rear end. It does sound just like the rear end slips and then catches and then there is this hard bang when it does catch. I just can't think of anything I could've done to cause this. But Hey, that's why I am asking for help and not the one of those that answers the question...

Good Luck with your issue. I hope you do have it narraowed down.

Yeah I pretty much have to dismantle the watts link and take the time to do it RIGHT this time and the noise will be gone for me.

Also you may have a worn LSD in your car. The diff uses a clutch type limited slip unit. If yours has not been maintained properly with a flush and the correct friction modifier the clutch packs may have worn out and are slipping causing some noise when they finally catch.

    Sounds like a differential problem.

probably a coincidence that it happened right after your brake work, I agree with anthony.

Put the rear of the car in the air with the trans in neutral. Grab the driveshaft near the pinion, and see if it has any excessive up/down/left/right play to indicate a pinion bearing or crush collar issue. Then try and turn it side to side, see how far it turns in either direction before the wheels spin, this is seeing if there is excessive lash for some reason (broken teeth, for example). Then, see if you can turn one back wheel while another person holds the other, the clutches in the LSD should prevent this (easily, anyway). If all else is well, then you'll have to go into the rearend and have a look-see.

How about a problem with the antilock braking system...did you do anything that could have affected it?
