Mustang Jerks really bad when voltage regulator plugged in

Hello

my 93 GT jerks down the road really bad to where it is almost undrivable. one funny thing that i noticed was that when i unplugged the voltage regulator and took it for a spin, the car ran better than ever. but by unplugging the regulator the battery is not getting a charge. when i plug the regulator back in i get the same jerking. the wiring harness for alternator has been changed.

has anybody seen this before? am i missing something here?

Take the car to the nearest major auto parts chain (O' Rilely's, AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, etc.) and they will test your alternator in the car for free.
