I'll have to give that a shot. I got everything running on server 03, so I decided to buy a 64 bit motherboard and give server 08 enterprise r2 a shot since I was having some skipping with media streaming. That, and it was getting boring with everything working.
I'm looking forward to WHS 64bit that should release next year. I hope they make it easy to stream ANY video to the Xbox. That's my one gripe
I would think it would be very easy to stream anything to an xbox seeing as how it's a microsoft product. Maybe try something like twonkey or tversity? On another note, I got Server 08 enterprise r2 up and running my home network. Slightly overkill but so far after dealing with epic failure and a reinstall, easier to deal with than server 03. Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows Server Enterprise 2008 R2 64Bit/x64 English 1pk DSP OEI DVD 1-8CPU 25 Clt - Server Software Now, I just need to get everything else up and running again. I think this time, I'm going to use windows media player as my media server instead of ps3mediaserver. I have installed desktop experience on my server so it looks and acts somewhat similar to a vista/7 box now.
it does require twonky or tversity. Which it SHOULDN'T! It's a friggin microsoft product. It can be a MC Extender, stream all my stuff EXCEPT movies That's what aggravates me about it. If my PC can stream it from my WHS, then the 360 should also. There should be no need to transcode on the fly I'm going to play around with some stuff this weekend.. maybe add the My Movies add-in
Just saw this posted over at keznews. Looks like you get some new goodies to play around with Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 Now Available for Download - KezNews.com
I had to switch over to TVersity. Can't figure out how to get wmp12 to do the job on the server, just on the laptop, and ps33mediaserver(which I like) won't connect to the ps3. Made a firewall rule, ran it as a servvice, everything I can think of. Nothing. Tversity seems ok too though.
Attach a folder. Go to ps3, select folders, there it is. I don't know how to put my movies in the videos category though. I liked ps3mediaserver more, but .....
TVersity sucks. I was having continious problems with it. I went back to ps3mediaserver and now everything runs. Only problem is, I have to disable the firewall on the server to allow the ps3 to connect to it. I put exceptions in the firewall for ps3mediaserver, but it will only work when the firewall is disabled. Not sure how to get around that. Any ideas? Tony, your input would be appreciated if you know anything about this.
