Guys,

I recently bought a 90 GT with a complete aftermarket drivetrain in it. I don't care for the shifter that is currently in it. So, I recently ordered a T5/T45 Hurst shifter that had a taller handle. But when I took everything apart, the shifter I ordered won't match up with the trans I have. The base mounting plates don't match. This lead me to do some research and I believe I have a Tremec 500 or 600, but am not sure.

In the end, I guess that I need help identifying specifically which trans I have and then what shifters I can pick from.

I did many searches on here but wasn't able to find anything that gave me a definitive answer.
I'll try to attach some photos of a top down view in case that helps.

Thanks guys.

What you have is an older Tremec 3550. You will have to order a shifter for the 3550. The shifter you ordered wont fit because the T5 or Tremec 500 is what replaced the 3550 and they are different.

Thanks. That is what I kind of suspected, but didn't have enough experience with that trans yet to be sure. I do greatly appreciate the quick reply.

Don't let anyone talk you out of that transmission. It is much stronger and more durable than a T5. If it was broken in properly and has the right amount of the correct lubricant (GM Syncromesh Black) it is just about bulletproof. They shift smooth and fast and you never have to lift the throttle to shift. The only drawback is the GM Syncromesh Black is expensive - about $30 a quart at the GM dealer. The transmission takes 2 3/4 quarts, but whatever you do, don't get cheap and try something else.

As far a a top quality shifter, see http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_shifter.shtml the Tremec 3350 shifter is $209, you may need a new inner boot to compete the installation.
