New DD picture!!!

Yeah, my 3 are paid off, and the GFs Benz is as well. That is a nice weight off my back. Even just a $20K loan is min $350 a month. My $350 is better spent elsewhere.

Justin, my idea is to have fun with it. Mileage is probably 250-300K... could even be more. LOL

Trust me, the car is dented, rusted, etc... but thats why it works out, it was cheap and should get good mileage.

it does the deed the older you get the less you care about everything, thats why old people wear stupid clothes and velcro shoes, the REALLY don't care.

Glad to hear life is going well, you'll have to buy a ring one day and then your really going to be mad.

Metal is heavy!

rust = weight reduction = better gas mileage :D

There's nothing wrong with a beater, Brian. Don't feel bad, I drive a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT with over 150k, and absolutely beat to death. The windows don't go up or down, half the speakers are blown, the tail light leak so bad I could probably keep some goldfish alive in them, and if you slam the door too hard when you get in the map light falls off the headliner board and smacks you in the head. Hey, it gets me back and forth to the train station for school juuuuust fine. :nice:

Damn, for your grand am being such a POS, the mileage isn't even that high.. My 07 Escape currently has 145k on it and its been great thus far! I got it with 133k in August.

That's why i'm paying down the G35 as soon as possible and then driving it til the wheels fall off. When a house comes into the picture...other stuff takes a backseat.

Wait til the babies come...... :)

hehe... almost as nice as mine... an old lady from my church who doesn't drive anymore, told me if i could get it running i could have it... a new starter, and fresh battery charge... 61k mi original.
90 ford escort station wagon, 1.9L, 3 speed auto... power nothing.

Yeah, tell me about it. Mechanically, it's never given me a problem except for changing the head/intake gaskets on a recall from Pontiac at about 90k miles. It snapped an idler pulley one time but that was a $50 fix. Cosmetically, it's another story. It was my dad's commuter car before I got my hands on it, and my pops is notorious for annihilating cars in a very short period of time. He drove this thing into the ground and I inherited the ****tiness haha. :rlaugh:

not bad for a scort! I seen a guy here run low 12's with one of those also! My 99 scort i had got 35MPG all day every tank on the freeway! It had the 2.0 had more nuts then my 4 banger stang does.I got the car for free put $190 into it and sold it for $800!peace

Here's the only pic I have of my DD peaking out in the background behind the stang. I never desired to look at that car when I didn't need to and trust me its BEATEN!! Its been rear ended 3 X, hit once in the front by a drunk driver, and side swiped by a gardening truck driven by some guy with no license, and the paint has worn so thin now that I accidentally scrubbed some of the trunk down to primer with a soft sponge the last time I washed it! However, I can't say anything bad about it. Still gets 33-35 MPG, never breaks down, AC and Heat work, and it cost me next to nothing to keep running. Sadly ( or not so sadly) the end is near for this 95 Geo Prizim 110 HP, 5 speed performance machine with power nothing and 199,900 mi on the clock... I'll be getting a new DD as soon as my tax return comes in. I'm debating between a clean 2000 GT that a friend of mine has or an Audi TT (which is a personal fav of mine). Polar opposites, I know. Still have some time to decide.

Oh the Geo was the first car I ever drove.. my old man bought it new and just in time for me to get my license!

Yeah, I lucked out on the ring... GFs mother and father have been divorced and have given me the (claimed) 3 carat, $40K ring for when we decide that. Spoiled, but I will take it.

Justin when this thing hits the track it will be FUN times. Talks of nitrous are in the works. :D

Actually got on the car a bit merging onto the parkway. Car moves out alright, wakes up in the 4000 RPM range!! Now back to fuel saving!

Its funny my Audi gave me a ton of issues, and cost a bit more than this car! I cared about my appearance when pulling up somewhere, and still sort of do, but knowing that saving money now is smart, makes me sacrifice!

My current Daily (since all 3 mustangs do not run) is a 1994 Honda Civic Del Sol. 1.6L VTEC Bone stock, automatic. 317k+ miles. And it drives like a new one... not one panel on it is free from rust. Underneath it is solid and clean. Funny thing is I am 6'5" tall and 230+..... Imagine me getting out of that car....

Hey another escort! I bought my DD from a girl at my work for 200 bucks. All it needed was 2 lifters but I rebuilt the whole thing and brought it back from the dead. Not to steal thread but heres a couple pics. I dont have any pics of the exterior but its a wagon, I am still lurking the JY for a front a rear bumper as mine are cracked. I feel the same as you its real reliable and I am so glad how it runs for what I paid, but appearance is still kind of an issue, I try to park a little farther, you think that'll go away? I am used to pulling up in a rumbling mustang since I was 16.

These are just some pics during the process she runs great now and is all put back together.

I had a 96 escort gt 2years ago. I put a Gude performance package on mine (cams, ported intake, ported throttlebody and ported head) I also had a pacesetter header and catback on the car.
It made 145 hp on the dyno and ran 15.0's @ 94 mph in the 1/4.

Gas mileage was still around 30mpg and it sounded good with the cams. I miss that car it was a good one.

This is a old motor pic I had laying around:

Good to see other people with beaters. I have always joked about having a "beater" when the cars I had were always semi nice. This is my first true beater in every sense of the term. Don't worry about stealing the thread, you guys got more experience and photos of yours than me.

Just yesterday the fender got caught in the door trim and it pulled it in and caused the door to hang up. Flat pry bar, and about 20 seconds and it was precision placed so the door swings free!! :D

Mob, The look thing might always be an issue. I know when people see the Escort they judge me. Think I'm poor, homeless etc... but I didn't and never have bought vehicles for other people. They can assume anything and everything, I know what the truth is.

Also if I were still in the dating scene I might think different. None of my vehicles are chick magnets. The Audi was great for that!

I hear ya on that 1990... I have around 60k in school loans.. takes a nice $600+ from my budget every month...Which is exactly why I have two of my three cars paid for. Wish I could get the wifes x5 paid off... but I dont see that happening any time soon.

I hear ya on that. My goal is NOT to have a carpayment until after my wife's and my college loans are paid off. We are in the 550 range right now combined. it sucks :(

Just lemme know when and where and I'll be there! And lucky on the ring dude! i got my wife's ring, which is around 1.1ct for 12k, and i had to pay for that lol

Saw a pic of it in Matty Davids mod fox thread. How long have you had that thing? My wife has a 98 civic with 146k we wanted to drive until death lol. I honestly love driving the car, its a perfect commuter IMO.

I've had quite a few beaters, my 07 escape is one of the nicer cars i've owned for DD use (aside from an 01 explorer sport which i wrecked, and a 2003 wrx which i sold cause the payments + insurance were insane). If i didnt get the rock bottom price on the escape, i'd still be driving my 92 beater jeep cherokee with 212k miles on it. Nothing wrong with a good beater to get you to and from work is what I say. :nice:

not so much a beater but its what totes me around. i was pissed having to spend money on it to get it through inspection. cant decide if its gonna get run into the ground or if im gonna upgrade when i graduate. all about what it costs me i guess.
