The new s197 is about to get a face lift here soon due to poor consumer responce.
They weigh a couple hundred more than the pre-04.
And personally i dont like the tail end, the interior, and the GT500 looks like a v6 with light body work.
And they put a Lund looking hood scoop on the 07s.
I agree that Ford left a lot on the table when it comes to tuning for these things. The thottle-by-wire setup does retard the gas under certain conditions.
However, toss a few bolt-ons on it like a Air intake, remove the hydrocarbon filter, an axle back and give it a proper tune and they respond VERY well. I remember seeing some dyno charts showing 30HP gains from a CAI and a tune. The HP wasn't from the CAI, but just by tuning the car a little more aggressively from the factory.
The worst part about owning an 05+ is that any mod you do requires the car be tuned afterwards. That's why you need to buy a bunch of parts at one time, install and tune.
My neighbour has an 05 with a kb set up with 15psi producing almost 600rwhp ,that thing is liek a friggin bullit!!! ,definetly a nice car ,ad a very good car to mod
