I have a stroker 408/351W, street/strip car . with about 500 miles on it.
I have a Precision Oil Pumps blue printed, Melling HV, with the adjustable plug set all the way in , and with 20-50 Dino oil im getting:

54 lbs cold
32 hot idle
44 hot on freeway
when I get on it , I shift at 6200 rpm

It sounds like my bearing clearances were set up on the larger side. I am also running a remote Oberg oil filter, and a big square Perma Cool competition aluminum oil cooler all plumbed with #10 line. Im sure that is part of my problem.

I'd love 10-15 more lbs of pressure,
Can I add a shim to the relief spring, or replace the spring with a stiffer one?
and no, I wont run Lucas oil additive

any suggestions

rule of thumb is a typical cooler setup will cost you 10-15 psi of pressure. I dont have a specific recommendation, other than that this very issue was dissected at length over at corner-carvers, so you might try a search there.
