I've been searching for a thread I found a while back detailing how to go about painting the intake plaque. Now that I have my plaque off and want to paint it, I can't find the thread. So, umm, yeah, any pointers, such as sanding, type of paint, blah blah?

Anyone have pics of their painted intake plaques?

I polished and painted mine this summer 'cause I was a bit bored.

This is a picture I took of it a few minutes ago. I sandblasted it first to get all of the old paint out. Then I sanded it with a grit progression of 80 to 150 to 400. Then I wet sanded 400 to 800 to 1000 grit before taking it to the polishing wheel.

Then I painted the whole thing and let the paint set for a few minutes before carefully wiping off the paint from the higher surfaces with an acetone soaked rag.

You could do the same thing with different colors in each of the "low areas" if you did a little bit of masking.

After it was all dry, I sprayed a coat or two of wheel-clear paint on the whole thing so that I wouldn't have to be constantly polishing it.

As you can see, I don't clean it often.
