Yesterday, the 97 rolled over to 160k miles. She still seems to be in great condition and a lot of fun to drive. I hope to get another 100k miles from her. The color is Autumn Orange. Only 1,519 produced and only in 97. I'm lucky enough to have one that is a GT, has a stick and black leather. I've only see 1 other autumn orange mustang ever. In celebration, I gave her a bath and took some pictures and video. I also checked the fluids, ordered tires and checked the alignment. She still looks and drives nice. Last weekend, I took her on a trip out of town and got 25mpg, driving 75 with the cruise on and a few hard runs to highway speed. Maintance hasn't been too bad, but the usual things from driving a mustang hard: The pinion bearing went bad, intake cracked, right front hub, and I had some issues with the shift forks on the T45. Otherwise, it's been reliable and steady and still feels like a solid car, despite the mileage. Later this month, I desprately need to do a little touch up on a few spots and get some wax on her. I''ll probably take more pictures then. The modifications are light. Mechanically, I only added and offroad H pipe and yanked the intake silencer. Acoustically, she has boston aucoustics speakers, and alpine amps, driven by an alpine head unit. Sounds nice. Yes, I know... it's a 4x4, but that's fine with me. I already have one mustang that drags on speed bumps and this one still bottoms out in some places. I always liked that colour. There was a guy around her who bought one from the local dealership. Hardly ever drove it. Ordered it sans rear spoiler too. Always caught my eye at the car shows. To this day I think its stock right down to the air filter.
I must be totally confused.... my daily driver is a 5sp w/v8 and my toy is an automatic 4cyl. Guess which one is faster? 97 GT: 14.27@96.5mph in perfect weather (street tires, stock minus OR H-pipe) 88 4cyl stang: 12.26@111mph at 2300ft DA - looks like crap, runs like hell. Mostly junk yard parts. Still has full interior, and 17" wheels with nittos. You and I have a lot in common.
Looks to be in good shape. My paint sucks and I have 205K+ miles but it still runs well save for the 4th gear pop out.
The picture I took was in the evening with the sun already below the horizon. The picture you posted is in direct sun. I'll take a picture of my car in the sun... if I get to see it again sometime soon.
You could see why I thought that though? Wasnt a dis or anything, I love aeros more then the new edge cars. If I had a 96-98 Cobra with an 03/04 drivetrain but the 96-98 block... that would be perfection in my eyes Just so many faded Laser Red cars around that I figured thats what you had Didnt expect it was a rare color car, I know alot of stupid Mustang info but that was some info I didnt have. Never knew that color existed.
it's a real hard color to get to photograph right...I had a 99 Cougar that color and I loved it...I wish they offered the 99+ Mustangs in Autumn Orange (or DHG) my old Cougar BTW sweet looking Mustang...at 160,000 it's just about broken in
Yeah, I know it's similar to laser red in certain light. I just have to cause trouble and make it clear it's orange. Here's a picture from a few years ago in more direct light:
It's a VERY nice color. I actually looked at buying two Autumn Orange GT's before I got my 2000. One had just had the cracked intake replace, and had a very shoddy job done. It ran like crap with anything over 25% throttle (misfire) and had a half-fist sized hole punched in the rear bumper. Pass. Second one was in better shape, but had some hack-job mods done to it and alot of miles. The miles wouldn't have bothered me, but the way some of the mods were done did. Although I think it was a solid car, because I saw it driving around for a while after it sold. If I repainted my GT, AO would be a nice color on a new edge...
I love this color. I bought the second Autumn Orange Mustang I had ever seen. I just used McGuire's Clay bar on my car - really brightened up the orange - it glows now. I got 108k on my car - and the paint looks better than my 05 F150 with low miles. My plan for this car is to keep it stock. I did change a few things but kept the old stuff so I can go back. This car has never seen snow or bad Ohio weather - but I'm not afraid to drive it in the rain but try to avoid it. There is not a spec or rust anywhere on this car. If the engine ever goes - I will look for a 03-04 Cobra/Mach1 wreck and swap the drive train into mine.
Thanks for the tip on the McGuires clay bar. Mine often shades off to red and that annoys me a bit. I love McGuires products and planned to wax it soon anyway.
