Decided to throw a project thread together. I know what I'm building but its still pretty jumbled in my head so at the least this will help me line it out. I know this project will rub some people the wrong way but so be it. I build cars to enjoy and have fun with, the rest is irrelevant to me. This project is loosely based off a couple threads from corral and ls1tech as well as just some stuff Ive always wanted in a mustang. The idea is to have a fast street car that's also at home on the track and has a lot of the creature comforts that still make it fun on the road. First things first The car 1998 Mustang GT cobra clone (pretend its a 95 so i can stay in the fox forums ) Picked up the roller online, which is a bad habit of mine, and its currently on its way to my garage from Florida. Rust free cars are a lot harder to find up here in the rust belt. Car is straight as an arrow, just flaking some paint along the roof and rear quarter. Formerly a 5.4 Turbo track car its got some modifications that will lend themselves to my build plan. -custom dash, gauges etc. -MSD ignition system I will have to resell. -back seat delete -6 point roll cage -custom sumped aluminum gas tank ready for my external pump setup -all oem electronics and computer, again wont use most of this - PA racing k-member, I know can be used with swap mounts but it isnt the "preferred" K. -Moser axles -anti roll bar -mini spool -lakewood shocks all around -front coil overs -DS safety loop - aftermarket steering wheel -cobra front rear bumpers -Steeda wing (also for sale) -NIB cobra front lights -UCA/LCA solid spherical style - Twin Walbro intank 255s (cant use) - Crossmember and shifter for a TH400 EDIT: 5.3 has been pushed to the corner in favor of an LQ4. There's no replacement for indecisiveness Picked up my transmission today TH400, needs a few parts changed out, basic rebuild, couple HP mods and a converter. Will have a manual VB and a T-brake as well as time permits. Ill be using Holley HP EFI to wire up and tune the car, its a little more expensive than MS or the like but it keeps me from tracking down and monkeying around with a stock computer, harness, etc nightmare. And it will handle a boosted application perfectly. The turbo build will require a few big changes but right now other than refreshing and sourcing a few parts I feel like the build is falling together well so far. Still have a long way to go but hoping to have it running as an NA small kit car by spring. Work keeps me out of the garage more than I'd like but the extra days are funding the build quickly. Feel free to ask questions or offer suggestions! Ive got a lot of research yet to do and always enjoy learning new things.
