hey, my rear end was leaking oil into one of my brake drums, so naturally the seal needs replacing. Well i got the brakes off and the axle out, but i cant figure out how to remove the seal from the housing. I know there is a tool to do it with, but i cant afford to buy every specialty tool that ford makes to use 1 time. Any ideas how to get it out without the tool?

Also, if the bearing is still tight and doesnt freewheel when spun its good, right?

Thanks again.

I have done this a bunch of times at the track.

Get some "channel locks" and rip the seal out, but be careful not to damage the area where the seal "seats". A piece of PVC pipe and a small hammer will help you "seat" the replacement.

Not a big deal. Grease the axle before "sticking it in" and I use a lite coating of ATV when putting the new one in.
