Guys, i've got to tell you. No way in hell my 18's with my 275/35/18 tires on them would fit if i went with a 95 track width .75 wider than the fox. Under hard cornering they will rub now and then on my rolled fenders. Even with the 265's they would rub if i really really pushed it. Panhard bar would cure it. Remember the 18's were never meant for a fox, and IMO, i would NOT use the 94/95 rear setup.
I think im going to stay with the stock saleen axles and try and find some rims that will fit them being someone is coming saturday to buy the rims i have now. so stock saleen rims are 16x8 wtih a 20mm fromt BS and an 36mm rear BS. so if i went with a set of four 17x8's with a 24mm BS would that work?
If you want to go fast, I would stick with a lighweight 16in wheel wrapped with some gumballs for rubber
George is spoiled. Don't listen to him The three piece sterns are super light wheels so he is not noticing the extra rolling mass even by adjusting on tire size. I know. I have them. Don't know what exactly you are looking for but I would stick to what you have. The mesh/basketweave and 5 spoke ARE wheels are super strrong and super light. I would buy another set off of ebay for backups and run them at the track with some supersticky tires like also said. Back in the day I used to run the stock ARE wheels on the Yokohama 008's. They were awesome. If you want bling then run your 18x9's around town but not on the track. As Joe said, the 18" wheel was not made to work on a Mustang/Fairmont.
The ARE saleen 5 spokes i sold were superlight. I might even go as far as my 18's weight twice as much, maybe even more. Problem was that they would not fit over my Bullit calipers, heightwise they would make it, but the spokes would hit.
i would run are wheels if i had them but the car came with some crappy prime five spokes that i really dont like. I found some wheels that are 17x7 with a +42mm backspace. would these work?
Am not, are too, am not, are too!! OK so I "MAY" be a "LITTLE" spoiled... hehehe.. but Bart and the guys are right, stick with the 16's and get some sticky tires and have fun. Use the wheels you have for the track and just find some original ARE's or basketweaves or a nice set of 17" STERNS hehehe
Don't know. Also, the offsets that that other guy quoted are for the 16x8 inch wheels all around , the DP5's so don't go by that for the 16x7 and 16x8 ARE wheels. Just check ebay as I see a nice set of ARE's on every other week or so. I'd sell you a set but I'm down to my last two. what happened to those 17" Speedlines on Craigslist? I do have a real nice set of 5 spokes on an 89 project Saleen but the car is $3,500 as is.
Marcus if I had a "CHEAP" way of getting that car to Atlanta I'd buy it from you. I just need to get it here for free somehow. LOL
Where's theres a "Saleen" will there's a way. It's hiding in Roberts garage as of now. It was there or the highway. I could probably get that from parting her out because she is 95% complete but that would be a abomination.
the speedlines on craigslist were taken off the day before i sold my rims. which by the way i made a $200 profit on so now I have about $700 to spend on rims. I'm open to any suggestoins or if anyone knows where i can get some are's or speedlines or sterns. anything is better than my primes. ( i hate these rims)
What color is your car? There is a white set of the 18 inch speedlines on ebay, but they are in australia some how. With $700 to spend, cross the sterns off your list, even if you tripled that number, if they are in nice condition, you'd still be short. Those 17 speedlines were a steal, don't expect to see something similar to that again. If that guy put them on ebay, they would of easily went up to $1200+.
ok so sterns are off the list. I'm looking for something in a 16 or 17 inch wheel, i dont think im gonna go as big as 18's
Those are 16" wheels not 17" as he stated in his auction. Those are the same as the original wheels I had on my Saleen.
There too much money anyway but that's what the guy needs. He would probably rather have the 5 spokes. They sure are light. Hey Joe, did you sell all of those wheels, even those morphodite really wide ones?
Yup, they are long gone, sold them to a guy that had 3 good ones, now he has eight. I did give him the name of a guy that was willing to replace the hoop on the damage deep dish, or take the non deep rear and move the star back one inch. Loved those rims, sorry they had to go, but the spokes hit my front calipers after the big brake swap. I think i got $600 for them, but believe it or not, as time flies, that was about a year ago now. I really wouldn't pay much for the basket weaves, i think those are more for guys that want an all original car.
