You are correct, all the SSC's were produced in 1989. The original 1989 SSC #184 was totalled and somebody salvaged all the parts from that car and added them to this 88 foxbody, if memory serves me correctly. The guy selling the car DOESN'T claim that it is a real SSC Saleen. I'm pretty sure he is not the person who went to great lengths to do all the work to this car  To bad though, that would be a great deal on an anniversary Saleen!!!

I believe your right. The saleen book says nothing about a 88 SSC.

Makes you wonder how long it took to find all the pieces or he found a wrecked one.

It would make a great parts crar for someone restoring a SSC car. Just an expensive one. Not worth what they are asking. realistically its probably worth about $6000

What parts there are real and unreplicateable?
Just curious, because other than the seats, and door panels, doesn't look too hard to duplicate. But i have an untrained eye.

Agreed. Maybe 6k at that. That car has been beat down also. I have pictures of that car from over 3 years ago from a car show in FL. I remember becuase it had the "cobra" grill inert and the incorrect front air dam. I know it was the same car becuase it still has the same scratch on the bumper molding (corner)

    Sorry Joe.

What he meant about being difficult to replicate. Those DP5 wheels are NLA. The rear seat delete and stereo tray, intake plaque, as well as the seats and door panels like you said. At that point those items alone would not make a replica worth it. Not telling you anythin new. XP8 disaster. A shame really. I'd like to own a noce XP8 but would be afraid to drive it.

But the rear seat delete in that car, just looks like a dugan racing kit.

    89-184ssc

I spoke with Tim Holland in Georgia (multiple Saleen owner over the years) the first registered owner of 89-184SSC and he confirmed that his son had wtrecked the car early in its life and was sold.

So, no question this is a car that was built from take-off parts from the real car. I wish the registry would be so bold as to add this type information to protect future buyers of such cars.

    I
I was best friend's with his son Daniel all through middle and high school and knew the SSC very well. The SSC was totaled with less than 6k miles on the clock and I think Dugan Racing bought the car from the insurance auction and tried to pawn it off as a real SSC after they transferred all the parts to a new shell. I never had any respect for Dugan, but this put a nail in the coffin…

I remember Daniel telling me about wrecking the car and I though he was kidding until I saw the mangled SSC in the driveway the next day.

I will dig and see if I can find the pictures………..

Just a heads up on Dugan, don't trust him period. He has been selling alot of stuff on ebay and it doesn't arrived in the condition it is described to be in! His reputation is not the best.

I had a guy make a left coming the opposite way in front of me (illegally) and i clipped his rear end.
Luckily all i did was scratch the paint and break the p side head lights.
No Saleen parts damage at all, not the hood, Ground effects, nothing.
Accidents happen, but this jerk denied responsibility, so i nudged the cop in the right direction and the cop wrote him 2 tickets. If he had said it was his fault i wouldn't of needed to protect myself.

But the point was that in an instant, all i could think of is "what am i going to do?" My trucks life passed before my eyes.

Kind of worked out, they painted the entire nose of my truck because i played the "it's a collectors item" thing.
Hood needed painting anyway. (crappy saleen job).

What's really odd is that book value on the truck is over 32,000 if they total it. I'd make a substantial profit on that.

A green and gold xp8 with minor paint damage was sold on ebay for $8000.

Whoever got it, lucked the hell out. Because green and gold sucked, but a simple decal and wheel change to silver it looks nice.

I remember. This is the reason guys like Scott, Robert and I hoard Saleen parts. It just sucks period.

Now you know why Dugans kit looks similar. He robbed the design and called it his. The authentic Saleen SSC rear tray is impossible to find original.

If it was reasonably priced I would love to have it for a future parts car. I could return the 88 to stock and keep all the hard to find parts! I know! i need to stop the insanity!
