I am a tall guy (6'3") and have NO legroom in my 1996 GT Convertible. I just ordered seat track extenders (from AmericanMuscle.com) to move the driver's seat back. HOWEVER, the seatbelt in my mustang has two retractors. One just behind the seat where it bolts to the floor, the other inside the panel over the rear seat. The retractor on the floor will block my seat from going back much farther.

I know in 1999 they changed the seatbelt to only use a retractor in the rear panel of the car with a simple very slim end that bolts on the the carpet behind the driver's seat just inside door sill.

Can I replace my 1996 style seatbelt with a 1999 - 2004 seatbelt? This would allow the seat to go back SO much farther. I know the interiors from 1994 -2004 changed very little. Can I just take out the old seat belt, use existing mounts in the car and swap a newer version in?
