Service Engine Soon....HELP???

My Service Engine Soon light came one yesterday on my way home from school and it stayed on. What should I do? I have about 17,000 miles on the car. Do I need to get the codes pulled, or is there a way to shut the light off? Please help! Thanks.......If I need to get the codes pulled, does AutoZone still do it for free??

You can "shut the light off" by resetting the battery but it's only going to come back on. I would get the codes pulled and see what's up.
